Rangefinders

A rangefinder is an important tool for any golf enthusiast, from the experienced pro to the weekend straggler. A rangefinder can help you better understand the course and allows for a greater accuracy of trajectory and shot selection. Without a rangefinder, it can be hard to accurately gauge distances between the golf ball, the hole, and any other elements on the course. Although modern courses do have yardage markers to help, they are not entirely accurate, making it difficult to consistently create the perfect golf shots. With a rangefinder, this worry is eliminated, allowing you to enjoy the game of golf to its fullest.

Rangefinders come in various shapes and sizes, with various features to suit different needs and skill levels. The handheld rangefinder is the classic design, and what comes to mind when most people think of these devices. It is also the least expensive type of rangefinder, as they tend to cost anywhere between $100 and $300. These devices allow the user to measure the distance of any object within range. A red laser beam provides the data, usually in yards, but some rangefinders now provide distance information in meters. Handheld rangefinders rely on batteries, the most common being a CR2 3-volt lithium battery.

Advanced electronic rangefinders are the next step up, with prices beginning at around $400. These rangefinders go beyond measuring distance, as they also provide data about the environment. This includes information about wind speed, direction and strength along with barometric pressure and temperature. Some advanced models also have built-in GPS that allow the user to measure distances between multiple points on the course. Depending on the model, they use either a rechargeable or replaceable battery.

The most sophisticated type of rangefinder is the GPS Rangefinder. Prices for these rangefinders start at around $500 and increase from there depending on the model and features. These rangefinders measure accurate distances from the user to any object on the course, even those that cannot be seen due to obstacles such as trees or hills. They store data about the entire course for future use, and the higher end models often come with a handheld computer that helps the user to analyze the course and make strategic decisions. Most of these rangefinders come preloaded with courses, while others allow the user to download courses from the internet.

Regardless of the type of rangefinder you choose, having one will drastically improve your golf game. You will be able to accurately predict your shots and make sound decisions based on the data provided by the device. The result will be a more enjoyable round of golf, allowing you to focus more on refining your skills and less on guessing distances.
