5 Stars By Ronald T. Schneider on 2017-11-18 More effective than the cheap plastic trap I also purchased. I purchased this last month because a critter was roaming around our house when we left the doors open to move plants to the backyard. I purchased this rat cage live trap for $20 and also a plastic "Humane Mouse Trap,Rodents Trap,Live Catch,Mice Rats No Kill Plastic" that was only $11.50. So far the plastic one has not caught anything. The cage trap caught the little mouse within three days and I let it go live it's life in a big field. I figured I may as well set the trap outside to see if I get anything. This morning I caught another one outside! The little guy must have been strong or a cat must have tried to get him because the cage was moved about two feet from where I set it! I drove to another field and let him go free. This is a great trap and I am very glad that I purchased it. .
5 Stars By T on 2017-07-25 Many traps will work if you know what to do, but this is one of the better built ones. Although most traditional type rat traps will work, this one is well built and sized right for the medium sized (3-6" bodies) rats I was after. I tried other brands and styles, but this was the most successful. Here are a few tips that may help raise your percentages: Keep in mind that mice/rats are pretty smart, and because they're near the bottom of the food chain, they remember the sights, sounds, smells that were present when they have close calls, or one of their buddies gets caught. Try to handle your traps with some type of thin gloves that don't leave your scent on the trap (cotton or latex). If you're using food, try different types that rats are known to eat, but mix it up & don't think that just because you haven't caught one in a while, it's the food- you might have to move your traps around because once a rat has identified a suspicious item, they will avoid it. Try putting your traps in the path of their normal getaway routes- in my case, they were eating oranges off the tree & since the tree was next to a block wall, they would run either direction on that wall to get away from the tree once I shined bright lights on it at night. So I placed blank traps (2 in each direction- side by side) along the top of the wall (with NO food in the trap) and then placed a regular clean shop rag over the half that would normally have food on it. That way, they see it as something to walk/run on, but since no food is present, they're not as suspicious & this method caught more than any other I tried.
Remember to mix it up & keep trying new things, because as Bill Murray said, "a varmint will never quit -- ever. They're like the Viet Cong -- Varmint CongSo- you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower".
5 Stars By Rfvbgt on 2017-01-11 I'm never using the standard wooden models again I've used the standard wooden models for years and got good results, but setting them was nerve-wracking. These metal traps have a safety catch you engage when you pull back the bail allowing you to use both hands to set the trigger without fear of getting your fingers snapped. Once the trigger is set, you can slide off the safety catch with one finger. Safe and easy!
5 Stars By Lori Hicks on 2018-02-05 We took the rat for a joy ride 12 miles out and let it go in ... This trap worked the very first night. Previously, I had spent upwards of $100.00 on other types of traps with no success. I decided to try this one. Oddly enough, I had an ant exterminator at my house that morning. When I share my problem with him, he told me he could take care of the problem for an additional $100.00. I showed him the trap and he turned his nose up at it. Least to say, the next morning, he was the first person I sent a picture to of the "trapped rat". We took the rat for a joy ride 12 miles out and let it go in the field. This trap has my seal of approval.
5 Stars By aw on 2017-01-17 I really like these for setting I really like these for setting. They have a safety catch that allows you to set it without fear, you can have your fingers totally clear before you take the safety off. I can't speak to their effectiveness, our mice seem especially wiley and have escaped live traps, sticky traps, old school wooden traps, they are getting the bait without setting it off. But I really don't think it's the trap, these mice are nuts. Also, all they care to eat is dry bisquick, It's like crack. They dgaf about pb, cheese, fruit, chocolate, or even the bisquick with water to make a paste. It's a trip.
5 Stars By Hoyt on 2017-02-02 These are the way to go. I don't write reviews very often, but I have to admit these traps are great. Love the adjustability of the trap's sensitivity. They do a great job of holding on to the rat so it can't escape if not killed when set off. We have caught so many more rats with these traps than with the wood ones. A definite improvement in our rat eradication efforts.
3 Stars By vajrap on 2018-01-02 Good trap but rather dangerous to learn how to use as the edges are sharp. As a trap these work well enough to catch rats. I like that there's the safety catch so they don't get set off while I'm putting them in place. My complaint is the edges are very sharp - while I was figuring out how they worked and how to set them, putting the lever under pressure, they snapped a few times and each time cut my hand pretty deeply. I suggest you wear sturdy gloves while you figure out how these work if you are new to mousetraps, and always use the safety catch until they are in place.
5 Stars By Alan on 2018-02-09 1) Cutting off the bait plate a little (To ensure the mole gets a good snap in the trap Did a little modification to the Rat Trap Snap Trap! Finally caught a mole trap after putting it out for 2 hours! 1) Cutting off the bait plate a little (To ensure the mole gets a good snap in the trap.) 2) Bend the bait plate a little after the cut. (So, mole won't feel the sharpness at the bait plate to trigger off the trap.) 3) Pinch the trigger "eye" a little to make the trap more sensitive.
Tried multiple other kind of traps and didn't catch a single mole until this trap after the mod! Hopefully this can stop the moles from continuing their tunneling activities in my yard!
4 Stars By Kindle Customer on 2017-01-08 Very strong spring. Definitely kills. Easy to clean after catching rat. Extremely strong spring. The trap has a lever to hold it in place while you set it. Great invention. Saves your fingers. I have caught two rats since I received these. I would have given it 5 stars but the hole where you insert the arm to hold the bait lever was pre-punched but not open. I had to pry it open with a small screwdriver or I couldn't set the trap.
4 Stars By Christopher E on 2017-08-25 Hair-triggered! I'm using these as a preventative measure for roof rats, so thankfully I can't yet comment on their proven effectiveness. However, I can say that I like that they trigger very easily; the piece that holds the snap arm in place barely protrudes at all, meaning it's readily triggered. The (horizontal) spike meant to hold bait in place is too small and low to be of much use, so I used a few drops of glue to hold a piece of beef jerky bait in place. That should help prevent bait from being stolen without the trap being triggered.
I don't know yet for sure that they're worth the extra cost, but they do seem to be well designed and constructed (although I recommend securing bait with glue).
