This microphone has outstanding sound and build quality in a package that won't take up your entire desk. I'm using this primarily for Skype calls on Mac OS. This mic is probably overkill for that purpose but I was happy with the price and it fits my needs. It includes a zero-latency 3.5mm headphone output so you can hear yourself through the mic with no delay. In addition, it simultaneously acts an audio output device for your computer, which is also output through the 3.5mm jack. Coming from a family of musicians (but not being one myself) I grew up around the Shure brand and took the plunge mostly based on their reputation seeing as there weren't many reviews of this mic when I purchased it. The mic exceeded my expectations and I have no problem recommending it.

on 2016-02-02 Finally found what I was looking for!
I've been looking for a decent microphone for recording guitar and vocals at the same time. I got an Adapter
to mount this on a regular mic stand and it works really well for vocals and guitar if I stand so the mic is about at my chest facing up with the guitar below it. (Performance video on my Youtube channel abeardneglected if you're interested.)
I'm more interested in convenience than perfection. This fits the bill. And I love that it connects directly to my iPhone as well as my computer via USB. Excellent sound. Highly recommended.

Very cool, sounds great, love it!
I just received this mic and it really is a solid performer. I bought it for my wife to record her students (clarinet) using her iPhone6S for tryouts and not only does it look awesome, the sound is excellent to my aging ears (her ears are fine and she likes it). Compared to her iPhone6S mic to this microphone is like comparing a Chevy Impala to a Tesla. The free app is also very cool, and makes it a one-button record with the gain being set automatically. Even when you clap hard with the app in auto gain mode, it does not clip and it still picks up whispers 2ft from the mic at the same time, so the app is very solid as well. Very happy I bought it and I am considering buying one for myself. I do a lot of sound work (not professionally) and I would say that the sound being recorded on her phone is very comparable to a Sure SM58 going XLR through a iRig PRE into the iPhone, and yes I do own that setup, so I know from whence I speak.

This is a great microphone. I use it for Garage Band on my iPad Air. There is absolutely no hiss on the recording, clean as a whistle! The settings for voice, flat, and instrument is a very nice feature. Also, the ability to plug in my headphones into the mic, to monitor what I'm recording, is another great feature. You will find that the 'voice' setting is generally for interviews and podcasting. It gives voices lower frequencies to make them sound fuller and more natural. The manual describes the settings for 'flat' and 'instrument'. I tried my acoustic guitar on 'instrument' and it sounded outstanding. It does a great job on all 3 settings.

I love that they did that
Superb mic. I have tons of mics lying around. Most are Shure products. I picked this up for the ability to plug it into an Android/PC or Apple/Mac. I love that they did that. Quality is top notch. Unlike some of my other Shure products, I won't be using this anytime soon to be hammering down a nail, or building stage props, but the aesthetics are great! The thing fits in the palm of your hand easily, and if your buddies tick you off, it's a perfect projectile to whip at them and not worry about breaking the mic (just their pride). ;) Priced right too! God bless Capitalism!

on 2018-01-18 Great Mic for iPhone!
I am actually thrilled with this useful Shure mic when used on my iPhone. I've been conducting a group meeting in a noisy restaurant for about 2 years now, and this has definitely improved the ability of my YouTube subscribers to hear inputs from on site members other than me. My only reservation is that I have not been able to work out the technology to use two of them on the same iPhone. I bought a splitter, but that only works off my headphone jack, which is obsolete on later iPhones. I would certainly buy another if only I could use 2 of them for the same video recording. If anyone has a solution to this issue, I will welcome your input. Shure MV5 Digital Condenser Microphone (Gray) + USB & Lightning Cable

Excellent sound quality
I bought this to replace a Samson Meteor mic that had served me quite well, but that didn't take kindly to being knocked over on a semi-regular basis. I bought the Meteor on the recommendation of Wirecutter.and was not disappointed. So when I needed a new mic and saw this Shure had replaced the Samson last year as their runner-up best usb mic, I followed their recommendation again, and again I haven't been disappointed. This type of mic is quite an improvement over built-in computer microphones as well as headsets. If you do any kind of recording or broadcasting this type of mic is indispensable for achieving sufficient quality.. It may not be on par with an xlr mic, but to my ears it's very close and doesn't involve the purchase of any additional equipment.. I found the sound to be very clear, accurate, and noise-free. It features a flat setting as well as one geared for voice and one for guitar that boost the frequencies where voice and guitar reside. giving more control to tailor the sound to your liking. A built-in headphone jack with it's own volume control allows you to monitor the sound directly at the source, a feature I found very useful. It has suffered nearly as many mishaps as the previous Samson with no affect on sound quality, so I think it's fair to say it's pretty durable, though this shouldn't be taken as a suggestion or recommendation to treat it harshly.. I see it now comes with a lightning cable at about the same price I paid for one without the cable a while ago, so now it's an even better value.
The mic was delivered over a week late by an independent dealer ( for which they made a concession) and a corner of the box was smashed. So when I had a problem operating it, I assumed the mic was bad andI requested a return. However, I was able to resolve the problem (operator error) and cancelled the return. I'm glad I did.

So easy to use
I love the mic. I am using it for live interviews with candidates at forums that I am having for local candidates. Easy to use and integrates with facebook live seamlessly. The only issue I see is that I have been having trouble finding a longer lighting cable for it. I have a wide lens on my iPhone so sometimes I want to be able to pull the shot back a little while recording and can't because of the three feet limitation. Otherwise great mic!

Love the color scheme, love the sound, love the size!
I have a Yeti and bought this as a second mic for various projects. It sounds great! The three settings allow for different types of recording and/or environments. The small size is cool, though you will need an adapter if you plan to mount it with a standard mic mount/arm.

First time I've ever been completely disappointed by a Shure product.
I have been using Shure microphones and headphones for over 20 years, and this was the first time I've been completely let down by one of their products. The housing for this mic is cheap plastic - unlike any other Shure microphone I've ever seen. While it did connect fine to my PC, the audio result was completely disappointing. I was hoping for a small mic that I could use in our edit room to punch-in spoken lines, but the sound was so thin, it couldn't match the tone of the Shure MVL lav mic from the same line.
Would this be a step up from a headset mic for a gamer? Maybe. Would I ever use it for a professional audio application? No.
