superb butter flavor, great health benefits from being grass-fed, comparably priced to other ghee online
First I want to say that the only other ghee I have tried is Purity Farms. Next, I only have used ghee for baking purposes, for making things the most flaky possible when making puff pastry and when working with phyllo dough as clarified butter, I think, really makes a difference. For our regular butter that we keep in our butter dish we ALWAYS buy grass fed, we used to get Pastureland which is the best but that hasn't been available in over a year so we did a taste test between Kalona and Organic Valley and we now buy Kalona Supernatural. Anyway, when I saw this sample pack by 4th & Heart I though what would I do with it all and what would I do with the different flavors. Then I started thinking how the vanilla would be neat in pastries, and how the garlic could make easy garlic bread, the item description talked about just using it as a spread. So, I tried it, and now I can't stop eating the stuff.
I want to start with the fact that this is grass fed. I attached a photo of the original 4th & Heart ghee next to my Purity Farms ghee and you can see the huge color difference, and no, there is no color added to the 4th & Heart, the deeper yellow comes from the cows having been grass fed. Grass fed dairy is higher in many, many nutrients but most notable in my mind are conjugated linoleic acid and vitamin K2. K2 is a big deal because it is hard to get natural unless you eat a lot of seaweed and it makes a huge difference in calcium being deposited where it should go, in bones, not in arteries. CLA is good for maintaining muscle mass and metabolism and also helps keep cancer away. Now, on to taste.
Our first tasting was on 100% whole wheat bagels just as spread, everyone in the family tried all five flavors. Since then we have been eating daily.
OH MY GOD did just the plain unsalted original have amazing sting butter flavor, this stuff will spoil you. Kids liked it too, husband loved how buttery it tasted. Would definitely buy this again.
We eat pink Himalayan sea salt at home as our usual salt, so I thought it was great that this was what 4th & Heart uses. The flavor of this ghee was also fantastic. That being said, the amount of salt in this the is more than twice that of Kalona Supernatural grass-fed butter we usually eat. But still, it tastes really good :) Kids and hubby really liked this flavor as well.
The vanilla is delicious and the kids now ask for it at breakfast. There is nothing but clarified butter and vanilla in this yet it seems to have a sweet taste to it, and it brings out the sweetness in in anything it is mixed with. The kids now request this butter on their bagels, toast, and english muffins which we usually serve with a little maple sugar sprinkled on top and the mix of the vanilla with the maple sugar is wonderful, and because of the added sweetness of the vanilla ghee I can actually cut way back in the maple sugar I sprinkle and the kids don't notice or care. I have not yet tried baking with this, we have been enjoying all the flavors so much as just plain spreads that I may never bake with it as we most likely will just eat it all as is.
The garlic smells so heavenly and intense, but the flavor was just not there, it was so odd to smell so much garlic and then taste next to none, I was disappointed thinking my grand plans of super fast and easy and delicious garlic bread using this stuff and ciabatta bread were dashed. It took me a few times of using it to figure out that there was no salt added to the garlic and this might make a difference. So, I tried adding a little of my own salt and voila, there was the garlic flavor I was looking for, just not as strong as it smells though. I like this so much that I have been using the garlic with added salt on my bagels as a savory bagel instead of going with something sweet. I have not yet tried garlic bread, but will be buying ciabatta in a few days when we next go grocery shopping. My kids did not care for this one, no big surprise there for me, and my husband agreed with me that the smell was fantastic but that the garlic flavor was just not there. he has not yet tried it with salt, but I am sure he'd agree with me that salt brought out the garlic flavor.
I have never tried white truffle anything before though I have seen the oil around a lot lately. This flavor ghee really did nothing for any of us, no one particularly cared for it but it certainly wasn't bad tasting though. I told my mom about it and I swear she was salivating through the phone, so I may give her the rest of the jar and perhaps she will appreciate it more than my family.
Lastly, price. This stuff is expensive. The Purity Farms I bought at a natural food store and so did not have to pay for shipping, so I decided to see what it sells for on AlumiGogo where shipping is included in the price to more fairly compare pricing and this 4th & Heart grass-fed ghee is about the same price per jar. Purity Farms is organic but not grass fed, 4th & Heart is grass fed but not organic. So, this may be why the pricing is so similar. I can't help but wonder how much more affordable 4th & Heart would be if I were to find it in a store. At an average of $14 per jar it is quite spendy to use every day as a spread, it is about 2.5 sticks per jar and Kalona Supernatural is about $8 or $9 for 4 sticks, though it is not clarified just grass-fed and organic. I would definitely buy this 4th & Heart regularly if I could find it at a store for less than what it sells for on AlumiGogo, and I will still buy it once in a while on AlumiGogo for a treat as both myself and the kids are really loving it, it is really so flavorful as compared to the other ghee I have tried and so much more flavorful than out usual stick butter. But I think I would choose jars individually so that we get what we like the best and not have to pay for so so flavors. I can see where this multi-flavor pack would make a totally awesome gift. And I like how clarified butter has a much longer life span than regular butter, so this stuff doesn't have to be consumed so fast and will last a long while.

OH OH...TEMPTATION IN A JAR.
I began making Bulletproof Coffee, and I had been using grass-fed butter. Then I heard about the use of ghee in the coffee and tried this one with the touch of vanilla. Oh, what it does to me and my coffee! What was just a somewhat latte-tasting coffee now becomes a tempting, silky and lip-smacking Indulgence. And, a few times a day I dip my fingertip into the jar and savor the taste. Expensive, yes and this time around I might cut it with my Kerrygold grass-fed butter to extend it when I add it to my coffee. But, my fingertip will still find its way into this magnificent jar of ghee.

Just received this and used in coffee. YUM! Another reviewer commented that this tasted like vanilla pudding, and I agree; it does indeed without the sweetness, of course. This is an extremely tasty product, and I highly recommend it.
**I've now had this for a few days, and I cannot keep myself from having a taste several times a day! It is silky smooth and absolutely luscious. I love ghee, and this is the best I've found. I will definitely be trying some of their other flavors.

Nice Vanilla taste - no carb sacrifice
I absolutely love this! I was making my Bullet Proof Coffee every morning and missing the vanilla flavor, then I found this. Zero carbs. No sweeteners. Pure butter with the vanilla bean infusion. Wonderful taste without sacrificing those few precious carbs I am allowed per day. I will even have some BPC with this in the evening to zap that craving for sweets.
Thanks so much 4th & Heart! Now, if they can just make a chocolate infused version with zero carbs.

Best ghee ever
My favorite ghee in general. But this is super yummy to blend into your coffee with some cinnamon and cashew milk. Perfect for all you whole 30-ers out there!

A Delicious Simple Ghee
Love this ghee. Delicious directly on foods, and in baked goods. Very good on fish!

The vanilla is not really detectable, but it is comparable to the more expensive ones.

Really doesn't have much flavor.
