10+ years of using these and I still LOVE them!
I saw that another reviewer is bothered by a quality change over the years but I have also been using these pens 10+ years and I still LOVE them. I have noted my observed changes in the product below.
PEN CASING: The shaft and casing for the old set has a fluted barrel and a white holder for the felt tip. The new barrels are smooth with a clear holder for the felt tip. I thought I would dislike this change in texture at first, but I have not found it to affect my writing in any negative way and I still find them easy to hold onto. I actually really like the changes. I purchased the 16-pack with wallet case. I did not realize that "wallet" meant that it comes with its own reusable plastic holder. I have shown this in the images and I love this feature!
TIP: The tip of my old set and new set are both medium thickness. The width is still very similar as you can see from the images.
SATURATION: Since my old set is, well, old, you can see from the text I wrote that they are starting to dry out a bit (especially the olive one). But hey! 10+ years and I am so pleased that these have lasted this long! I am super happy with the new set. You can see from the image that they obviously makes a smoother and more saturated line than my old set. They feel smoother to write with as well. I am also a LEFTY, so pen smearing is an issue with graphite pencils, gel pens, and other types of inks that don't dry to the paper immediately. These pens provide no smearing and are colorfast to page as soon as I write with them.
USAGE: I use them for note taking, calendar colorizing, old school letter writing, but mostly for drawing and creating custom typefaces for artwork and graphic design. Perhaps it just depends on what you need to use them for as to whether or not the change will bother you. For me, these pens are still my #1 brand. I have tried a number of other felt tip options and these are still the most awesome!
If you found my review helpful, please give me a YES below!

36 Pens NOT 36 Colors
I love these pens/markers. They're nice colors with a good variety and they don't bleed through thin papers like moleskine notebooks. I wanted more colors than my 18 pack gave me, so I ordered the tropical vacation 36 pack. I didn't look at the pictures close enough and there's nothing in the description, but you DO NOT get 36 unique colors. You get 26 unique colors and 10 doubles. I attached a photo so you can see the colors and which are doubled.

Busted Navy Blue :(
I wouldve given this a 5 star review but one of the colors came completely busted! The navy blue was bubbling out the top and side holes and now my hands are covered in navy. I'm very disappointed since I love these pens and paid more than what they're selling for on amazon now. Thank goodness the colors I wanted the pack for were perfectly fine but I'm very dissapointed that one was busted.
Otherwise these are my favorite kind of pen. I use them for taking notes and writing exams. They dont seep through to the back of the paper unless you're pressing hard or leaving the pen in one spot for too long. I recommend these pens to all my friends. Most of my friends use these to color code notes and keep track of events in our planners. Love these pens.
Also a few colors are missing from the pack in the pictures (navy blue, pumpkin, grey, & black). They're stashed away in my bag (expect the navy).

Perfect for direct instruction under document camera in middle/high school classroom
This pack is AMAZING, but pricey. As a classroom teacher though, I love having these on hand so I can strategically use color while giving direct instruction under the document camera while my students are active note-taking. It is much more engaging and also highlights important key words and makes connections across topics in math (for example, showing growth using the same color in a graph, table, equation, and tile pattern and showing the "starting point" in a different color). They last me a really long time because there are so many. A lot of teachers use these to grade. I love them for that too, but I recommend buying a full pack of purple or green for grading instead of using this pack so that all your grading feedback colors are consistent and you don't waste any of these colors.

BEST PENS EVER!
I love paper-mate!!
These are the best pens and they write so smooth whether you are a lefty or righty!!
colors are spot on:)
I did subtract one star because the lime green has no ink:( I was really sad because I use these for color coding and needed that green.
Overall you cannot go wrong with paper-mate!!!!!

100% would recommend these pens
I have been a longtime customer of Paper Mate felt tip pens. These absolutely pass the test. The colors are very true to the description and they write very smoothly. I also grabbed these as a very cheap price, dividing out to just .60 cents per pen. I use these for color-coding notes and school work and they are long lasting.

The line thicknesses you can get and the wide array of colors makes this a 5-star product. I also like that, when I'm doing a watercolor painting, I can use one of these pens to do a fine line, then pull the color with a damp brush. These are a watercolorist's best friend.

First of all, I love the nifty, clear plastic case that these pens come in. It makes carrying them around extremely convienient, and lets you organize them in whatever way you want. There is a great color selection, with a whole rainbow (and more) of hues.
I like the shape, size, and weight of these pens very much. The grip is very comfortable, despite the fact that it isn't made of rubber or some other soft material. It is neither too thick, too thin, or too heavy (they are very lightweight), so I can easily hold it to write or draw for long periods of time without experiencing fatigue or cramping. The tip size is larger than other pens that I normally use, but that doesn't bother me in the least.
These pens write smoothly and easily, and don't require much pressure to have a good line. The colors are very vivid, and none of them are too bright to read, not even the more neon colored ones. They don't bleed very much unless you use excessive pressure (I often see a faint shadow of the line on the other side of notebook paper, but rarely more). Unfortunately, they can smear severely if you highlight over the writing, or spill water on it. Due to the fact that they are felt tip, you don't have to worry about letting the ink dry, even on glossy paper, unlike with other types of pens.
All in all, these are great pens, and I would recommend these to anyone in need of a pen to write or draw.
- Great case
- Comfortable to hold
- Nice tip size
- Write well
- Non-bleed (usually)
- Dries quickly (like all felt tipped pens)
- Can smear (if the line is highlighted, or if it gets wet)

We normally love papermate products, but were dissapointed with this purchase . 10 of the markers were dried up upon arrival and there were many duplicates of the same color. Not what i expected from this brand or the price. The markers that work produce nice color but i Would not recommend

These pens are great and I can usually get 6 months out of them. This particular package came, and about half of the pens were already dried up. Some of the caps were broken so that you have to take off more than one layer before using the pen. The ones that do work are great, but that is onyl about half of the package. I would recommend buying these pens from staples because these ones appear to be fake or old.
