5 Stars By Marie P on 2016-08-21 Useful for those little pots that may not come with a lid I found the GIR lids while on a quest to reduce aluminum foil usage in my kitchen. So far I have 3 of these, and I love/dislike them for various reasons. I've had these products for about 3 months.
Color: Kind of don't care for the color (red), I would have preferred a vibrant red, but instead what came is a sickly tomato. Since I dislike tomato stains on a turquoise or white cover more, I'm still sticking with red. (hasn't happened yet, but just in case).
6" round: love it. Not particularly floppy due to diameter. Use it to cover cereal bowls, small 1qt saucepans, mugs. Good for cooking on top of the stove (lid handle hasn't gotten hot in my experience), room temperature for food prep, or for covering small bowls in the refrigerator.
10" round: Like it, would be better if not so floppy. Hard to find a good place to store in the kitchen. Best use found so far is to replace plastic wrap for cold storage of serving bowls.
9x13" downright dangerous when hot or used in the oven. Smells like chemicals when used in the oven, even on the 2nd use. Very floppy, even when room temperature. Want my money back if I could.
See video comparing lid sizes. Order of appearance: 9x13" monster, 10" round, 6" round
5 Stars By John Galt on 2016-02-21 Can This Outstanding Silicon Lid End War As We Know It? Oh how do I sing the praises and count the ways I love this little lid???
• Do you have a 10" Pyrex glass bowl that you use all the time but end up covering it with saran wrap? Use this lid. It 'suctions' onto the bowl and seals PERFECTLY. No odors in the 'fridge, no air getting to food, it's amazing.
• Heat foods in the microwave and get angry when food 'explodes' and makes a mess you hate to clean? Use this lid. No mess, no splatters, and it's a breeze to wipe off.
• Like to fry bacon in your frying pan but don't like cleaning a splatter cover? Use this lid. It covers and eliminates spatters and cleans up with the swish of a soap pad.
• Used this for over a year with no stains, it's just as pliable and still seals like a champ.
This may not cure terminal illnesses or bring peace to the middle east, but I'm quite sure it can cure the common cold and halt the spread of contagious viral outbreaks. It's THAT good.
4 Stars By yoohoo on 2015-11-16 Great lid I purchased this lid for my 8" pan. It just barely overhangs. You have to carefully place the lid on the pan so that the lid does not fall into the pan. The lid creates a seal. There is a suction issue when trying to lift the lid off of the pan. You have to carefully slide the lid to the side to release the suction before removing it. I really appreciate that the lid stays cool. My only complaints are I wish it were just a tad wider and that the handle was a little more prominent. Even with those complaints I really like this lid and have purchased it in three different sizes.
4 Stars By BKW on 2016-08-11 They really work, but storage is awkward, I bought this on AlumiGogo after seeing this product line elsewhere at a higher price. Rather than just buying one piece to try it out, I bought nearly every size and shape available. I cook a lot, and get tired of using plastic wrap to cover things that don't have lids. This seemed like a good ideal, so I jumped right in. Spent a lot of money, and got a big box delivered to my door.
They do work as advertised. I frequently make cole slaw in a huge bowl that needs to sit in the refrigerator overnight before I transfer it to one-quart deli containers. I use the large round cover for this. Every few hours, when I stir the resting cole slow, I'm pleased that I can't just grab the handle and lift the lid. It does form an airtight seal, which I have to break by grabbing an edge that extends beyond the rim of the bowl. This is the one I've used the most, but I do use some of the others to cover things in the refrigerator. I have not yet used them on the stove or in the microwave, but that isn't really what I bought them for.
The only downside is storage. Many years ago, I broke myself of the habit of having drawers and cabinets cluttered with lids to pots and pans, Tupperware/Rubbermaid containers, etc. My pots are neatly hung on a stainless restaurant shelf, and the lids are standing up in the wire mesh in descending order by size, so I can easily see them and grab just the lid I need for the job. I don't keep a scrap of Tupperware or Rubbermaid around anymore. When I bought these silicone lids, I hadn't taken a minute to think how I'd store them. Obviously, they won't stand up no my wire shelving. Right now, they're in a jumbled pile on a shelf, until I come up with a better solution.
Silicone is an amazing material with my practical applications around the house. These lids are a good example, but their flexible nature makes it impossible to store them upright. If you're as fussy about organized storage as I am, you should take this into consideration.
3 Stars By V Walker on 2018-06-21 Hots a flop, cold usage might be better I bought a set of the smallest lids for keeping my coffee hot, and even though I'm sure they are better than nothing, they really don't work as well as I was hoping. For one thing, I have a hard time maintaining the seal, and have to spend a lot of time fidgeting with it, trying to get it right. It works best on thin lipped cups, rather than a thicker mug. They are attractive, and I like the idea of them; but so far they haven't proven to be very useful in practice, and they only help marginally with keeping anything hot. They might work a lot better on something cold, but that's not really what I needed these for. While I would definitely not buy the small cup size again, I may consider buying a larger size for storing cold things in the fridge, as they seem well made and easy to clean.
5 Stars By Jane W. on 2016-10-06 Lids Make Great Presents (Bridal Showers, Hostess Gifts) I love these lids! There's a size and shape for every type of microwave-safe container. Instead of using paper towels or wax paper to cover my food when heating (or reheating) in my microwave, I just plop one of these covers over the top of the container. The food heats up very quickly. In fact, the container and food get VERY hot - watch when removing the lid for escaping steam. Another benefit - there is way much less spillage or splattering in the microwave to clean up. AND, the lids are very easy to clean either by hand or in my dishwasher (they are well-made). Finally, they make great gifts for friends or relatives (think bridal showers, birthdays, hostess gifts, etc.). I highly recommend.
5 Stars By LOVONYA on 2017-03-12 This cover is perfect for our 11" WOK! We have an 11" T-fal WOK that did not come with a lid. This cover is perfect! It gives enough of a seal that steam does not escape, making meal preparation faster, in addition to locking in nutrients. We have also used to cover bowls in fridge. Save time, make salads ahead, add dressing just before meal. Highly recommend this lid.
3 Stars By David A Walker on 2018-06-08 this lid is NOT happy when exposed to heat When I first saw these, I was soooo excited. Finally, a heat safe lid that can seal on all my pots/pans that don't have a lid. Well, this lid is NOT happy when exposed to heat, such as when put on a hot boiling pot. Had it bow/buckle from the radiant heat coming around the pot. Soooo, probably not going to use them over a large pot while cooking as they will bow right down into the food. Now I just use them as universal lids for things in the fridge, but definitely not the life-saver I had hoped for.
4 Stars By Lincoln County MT on 2018-04-18 Would be perfect if it was a full inch bigger....for a 12 inch wide skillet exactly 12 inches...a quarter inch lip is tricky. I bought for a 12 inch fry pan which is about 2.5 to 3 inches deep. Use for camping only but no lid and some of my lids for other pans large enough would seal too tight and just awkward to carry too. So had hopes that this would work with 12 inch pan. But had doubts due to the size listed at 12.5 inches which means only a quarter inch lip. Yeah someone did answer my question about that but not clear it wouldn't work...so in the end it is IFFY. Really doesn't fit well. I put in the stove and pan tote because it will be better now and again than nothing. But if the pan has a lot of liquid and not enough height of solids like chicken pieces this lid will slip down too much. If there's something in the pan to support it I hope it will do just that. As to the quality definitely a cut above the softer flimsy thinner ones. This has a nice density to it so holds it's form better. I wanted something to see at the campsite as in not to leave behind so I went with Orange. Most of my tools are red or brighter colors too or the bright lime even. A little mix matched in colors but I like the way orange plays with red etc. So just wish it was available in 13 inchs to 14 even. But will beat my bringing along a lid that's marginal too from our main kitchen. Like I said I had one seal itself to it and vacuum down it was hard to break it with hot dish inside. This won't do that for sure.
1 Stars By AlumiGogo Customer on 2017-07-01 I am very disappointed. I tried it on a pyrex bowl and ... I am very disappointed. I tried it on a pyrex bowl and on a ceramic bowl and there is no seal at all. Not even water-tight. Like placing a cutting board over a bowl. It clings to my glass countertop like no tomorrow, but completely fails to seal any bowl I tried.
Is there a trick to it that I am missing? Anyone knows?
There were so many good reviews, I just cannot believe that anyone could like this product...unless of course I am missing something. But I cannot make it work.
