A nutcracker is just too much - like using a jackhammer to open a jar of pickles
I am admittedly a pictachioholic (especially the sea salt and pepper!). I feel cheated when I have some that I just can't get open, but I have annihilated my thumbnails (Ow!) and not willing to crack teeth (again). A nutcracker is just too much - like using a jackhammer to open a jar of pickles...but I digress. So I do what many people do in this information age - I Google 'pistachio nutcracker'. I found plastic things, things with springs, and a tiny little USB jack hammer...okay, I lied about the jackhammer. Then I saw this one. Clean, simple, metal, no parts to fly off or replace and easy to clean.
I love this thing. Now I can eat every last pistachio. Even when I get a cruddy one that leaves a horrible taste in my mouth.

love this little thing, so easy to use
I used to be able to buy pistachios without the shells at my local Whole Foods. But lately I haven't been able to find those, only the ones in the shells. I have a couple of recipes that use pistachios and I was getting so frustrated trying to open them (preparing nuts for inclusion in dinner shouldn't take a half hour...), that I went on AlumiGogo looking for a solution. I found this.
And I love it. Such a simple thing, and actually pretty small in size, and designed only for one purpose. But it works. And it works very well. I tried it without reading the directions (there are directions on the back of the package) and it was so easy. You put the slightly open end of the nut facing up, where there is a little tooth, and you squeeze this. (It helps to have the crack in the top of the nut parallel to or in line with the long axis of the tool.) And the pistachio opens in a second or two. I love it.
One thing to watch out for. The first couple of pistachios I opened shot all over the kitchen. So it helps to aim downwards and also to have a large surface on which to work (like spread out some paper towels on the counter or something). This will also aid in clean up. Maybe when you are practiced you can take this to work or something, but for now, I'd be afraid of launching pistachios into the hallway outside my office.
Anyway, I'm happy because pistachios really go well in rice dishes, salads, etc., and now I can eat them again without all the frustration of opening shells by hands, prying them open with knives, etc.

Easy to use Pistachio opener
Received and tried the pistachiopener today. It works better than I thought it would. Not only did it work on the really tough ones, but found it easier to use than my thumb nail on the some what harder ones. Didn't break any finger or thumb nails, Highly recommend, money well spent.

Couldn't be happier
Works beautifully. It is well-made and perfectly cracks open those oh-so-hard-to-crack pistachios. Before, this tool a lot of pistachios would just end up in the trash because, they were closed to tightly and I couldn't get them open for the life of me, what a waste! Now, thankfully every single pistachio in my $9/lb. bag gets eaten.

This Little Tool Works Like a Champ...However,
Ordered this yesterday and it arrived today (Prime). There's no doubt, this little tool works like a champ. I've only used it on 4 or 5 nuts, but it performs as advertised. (note: there does need to be a crack in the shell to get the tip inside for this to work). I'd like to get another one for work, but $16.99 each??...Really?? 2 OR 3 For $16.99 maybe . Works Great...Highly Recommended , but I question the price.

Simple, well-designed and effective
The pistachio opener is simple, well-designed and effective. Position the nut as shown in the photographs - standing on end, with the long axis running vertically, then just slide the sharp end of the opener down.
Sure, it's not inexpensive, but how big is the market? It's not that pistachio nuts aren't popular. I suspect many people just don't even imagine there is an opener specifically designed for them.

Just what I was looking for. Now no more tossing the ones that I couldn't open.

Cute gadget. Doesn't really do the job as well as it promises. Will probably end up in the back of the gadget drawer with my other mistakes.

You and all of your friends need this handy pistachio opener
I bought one and couldn't believe what a relief it was to not bust my nails opening those stubborn pistachios. It makes eating pistachios, which are a pretty healthy nut, all the more enjoyable. It's lightweight and small, about 4 1/2" long so it fits in small hands and doesn't take up space in your kitchen. It's sturdy and will probably last forever. It's really quite ingenious in it's nut-opening design. I loved this indispensable tool so much that I soon decided to buy some for friends and family. Like every kitchen needs a garlic press, every kitchen needs this pistachio opener. Bonus: it's made in the USA!

Works great, but overpriced.
Bought this because my wife was always handing me a bowl of pistachios that were left over and she couldn't open. After a slight learning curve, she no longer has that problem. This thing works great. I would give it 5 stars if it were not for the price. It's way overpriced for what it is. I'm guessing the package cost more than the product.
