Only acceptable for a cheap machete
Most machetes I have owned are cheap and don't last long. This one is different. Let's do the Pros and Cons route:
1. Made in China
2. Nylon cord wrapped handle as it says in the AlumiGogo description...not very good, the nylon cord will snag on stickers, sticks etc
3. blade is stainless steel and therefore can not be sharpened very well, carbon steel sharpens much better....I prefer carbon steel
4. Some sharp, rough edges on the handle/grip. The butt part has a very rough sharp edge, as does the part of the blade just forward of the nylon cord wrap handle...both of these should have been ground down at the factory, rounded off.
5. machete is dull when it arrives from seller, very difficult to sharpen with a stone, may need to be ground with a wheel
2. thick blade, not flimsy like most machetes
In review, the one big thing I would change about this blade is to put a better handle on it other than the nylon cord wrap which is supposed to be the handle. A plastic or wood handle would have been much better. Wood would have been great. Basically you are buying a big long chunk of thin stainless steel painted black sharpened on one edge, with nylon cord wrapped around one end.

Absolutely ridiculous. The Rope handle came completely apart on the first swing LOL. It's also kind of top-heavy. I guess the steel is good quality but there are certainly way better machetes out there. From my experience, a rubber handle, with a slide resisting knob at the end is your best bet. Preferably one with finger grooves as well.

This thing is so much fun to use on banana trees that even my wife gets off the couch to whack away. Cam sharp. There are some complaints in reviews about the cord handle coming undone, I guess I just happen to be smarter thna the cord....I ran one end through the hole in the end of the handle and tied off the other cord end. No problems. And this is a stell machete, not a diamond edged one. If you whack hardwood you should not expect the blade to stay sharp forever.

Good for the price.
I would give it 5 stars, but the handle/grip is not very comfortable or secure. .A nice rubber handle like on SOG's would be perfect. But I knew that going in. I wrapped some parachute cord over the black cord so I could grip it better. There are also minor flaws or machine marks on the blade near the tip and some chips in the paint.
It is a good size and fairly sharp. I mostly like the lack of a saw back. They are a P.I.T.A. because it catches on the scabbard when you draw it. That could be the difference between becoming a zombie and living to fight another day ;)

on 2014-04-23 Works for clearing brush around the property.
great for taking out light to medium thick brush in quick fell swoops. up to thumb sized thickness branches confidently can be taken down. no saw back though and the sheath, well is terrible but netter than no sheath. If you intend to do more intense clearing, i would get one with a saw back. the rope around the handle is junk, i replaced with para-cord. I would defiantly recommend getting one with a saw back, much more efficient. Gerber makes a good one. Gerber 31-000758 Gator Machete with Sheath

Great for my needs
I was looking for the cheapest machete I could find to clear out some overgrown rose bushes and some other random weeds and (small) tree branches. I was nervous to use such a large/sharp blade but it was quite easy. I just made sure I swung it away from my legs/feet. I'd stand sideways to whatever I wanted to cut and swiped from front to back along my right side. At first it wasn't doing much but I quickly got the hang of it and just how hard to swing. I am "not" a "yard-work" type of person at all and have no skills really and I found this very easy. I am a small-built female and this was sharp enough to slice through the rose bushes, tall weeds and some over-grown branches from a tree. I did not have to slice through anything major or too thick (probably the thickest was like 1-2 inches around I'm guessing and those took a few whacks but, like I said, I am not skilled at this stuff and I don't have much muscle behind me). I would highly recommend for clearing out minor-medium overgrowth.

Good blade, bad grip
Overall the product works great. I use it almost every day in my garden for harvest and weed control. The only down side is the cord grip slips easily and starts to unravel.

Maybe good for fighting, but not tree limbs.
This is probably just my error, because I didn't know "stainless steel" was so soft. After a few hours of small limb cutting the blade was very wavy and dented. It just wasn't made for the work I'm doing. I hammered the blade edge back to near straight and filed it sharp and threw it in my truck for a combat or fighting blade. It might do well against flesh, but not tree limbs. I ordered an Ontario 6420 Hi-carbon steel kukri....that should do the job.

Used this thing for 3 months and never dulled with me hitting blood weeds and hundreds of twigs and small green branches, took a beating at the farm when clearing paths full of overgrowth and weeds . Its light with good swing weight feels tight in hand and doesnt bend like cheaper blades do. Overall great blade for heavy usage and good length for cutting through the small tree branches out in the field's

but very poor cutting tool
Looks and feels sharp, but very poor cutting tool. My Ontario machete is the best out there, but wanted to get a cheaper one beat up. This one is definitely that, but I've already stopped using it. It doesn't cut worth a d*** and the handle is quite uncomfortable and doesn't instill confidence.
I actually think I'm being generous with the three stars. It is cheap though.
