Delivers on Premium Freestanding Wine Cooler Feel
We were looking for a freestanding wine cooler that did not have an exposed hinge on top. As the controls are located at the top of the machine, this unit avoids that look.
I think it's important to put his unit in context of other options. It's definitely on the upper end of freestanding wine coolers in fit/finish, capacity, controls and functionality. You are getting close though to built in price with lower capacity. If you are looking at some point to fully enclose your cooler it might be worth looking at one of those other options.
As some have pointed out, this item doesn't ship well. Mine arrived in a single box with minimal styrofoam packaging. The top right portion of the door is damaged as was the bottom door hinge. I was able to bend the door hinge back into shape, and the blemish on the top right of the door is not visible in my application due to the countertop overhanging the unit. I subtracted half a star for this.
Once assembled you can definitely see the fit and finish difference from the $200-300 units. I've seen a few of these in person, and they really come across as similar in quality to that mini-fridge you had in college. Not so with the Edgestar. The door has significant weight to it closes with a satisfying feel. The shelves are all very straight and easily hold the weight of the wine, even if they are more loaded on one side vs the other. The wood shelf fronts are all beautifully finished and complete the premium look.
A few have complained about the 34 bottle capacity. I'll admit it can be a little bit of a puzzle. The top four shelves load 6 bottles in an alternating pattern, while the bottom two load 5 bottles in one direction to accommodate the compressor in the back of the unit. Bottles taller than standard will not load in the bottom two shelves. Bottles wider than standard will not load in any of the shelves without taking up extra bottle space resulting in lower overall capacity. I loaded 24 bottles and had only one that was too wide and takes up two spaces. I had two that were too long for the bottom shelves, but was able to locate them on the other four shelves. I'm fine with this compromise as the unit is already quite large, and making it any larger would start to become problematic for a freestanding unit.
The controls are wonderful to use as others have pointed out. Very simple functionally, they respond with a simple press, or press and hold in the case of the power button (I assume to avoid turning off accidentally). Not much more to say there, they simply work.
Temperature control, is well a bit perplexing. I've noticed that the unit will vary between 0-4 degrees from the 53 and 57 degree settings I have (the ideal temperature for white and red storage). From a design perspective it makes sense. The unit has one compressor and uses a fan to first direct cooler air to the upper compartment. Since they aren't independently controlled, there has to be some variance between the two. I'm not super bothered by this though, in my SF apartment the temperature can vary ten degrees or more during the day. So up to four degrees doesn't bother me, especially considering they are pretty close to ideal wine storage temps. I did subtract half a star though, as I expected close to 0-2 degrees of variance.
As far as noise goes, it has a compressor just like your normal fridge. It will make a small amount of noise as it operates during the day. As there really aren't premium thermoelectric options on the market, this is a compromise you have to make. I'll be honest though, I live in a small apartment with the kitchen not more than 12 ft from my work space. The noise is minimal and I'm hard pressed to tell you if its the fridge or the wine cooler. Chalk it up as the price to pay for a premium unit, and realize that compressor refrigeration is a much more proven technology with good longevity.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. It meets my expectations, and with an upgrade to packaging would be very close to a 5 star rating.

Elegant design, poor delivery, and disappointed in temperature consistency
Great design and looks amazing. The wood trim, LED lighting, and temperature panel really look elegant.
Shipping was a disaster. I was shipped this unit 3 times. On the first two, the back left corner was completely crushed and significantly damaged in the same spot on both. I believe this is likely an issue with the warehouse. On the third one, I specifically requested they check the cooler for damage before sending. Unfortunately, this time there was a huge dent in the door frame, which I strongly believe was caused by the shippers. Fortunately, the customer service was great! They just sent me a new door and I finally had a fully functional unit that was not damaged.
In regards to the cooler's performance, I think this cooler is relatively quiet. You can hear a small fan kicking on every few minutes, but it isn't loud enough to really notice. Unfortunately, though, this wine cooler does not keep a consistent temperature. If you set it for 54 degrees, it constantly fluctuates between 49 degrees and 55 degrees. The shelves were also slightly a disappointment since they do not pull out very far. You can still get the bottles out, but have to move some other bottles occasionally to access the one you want.
I still think this is all around a good unit. However, I am a little disappointed in its performance considering the cost.

Broke down after only 13 months
Initially, this product seemed fairly solid except that the temperatures would fluctuate a little bit and I'm not sure why. However, at just 13 months past purchase, it suddenly broke down. I came home after being away for 10 days and saw that the temperature inside the wine fridge had risen to 85 degrees...practically cooking my wine. I have some very expensive wine in this fridge and now I don't know if they've been compromised, which is very frustrating. Upon learning that my unit wasn't working properly, I contacted customer service via email as I wasn't having luck getting anyone on the phone. They did reply to me but the email responses were cold and personality-less...not even sure if a human was writing them. They sent me a video to instruct me on how to discover if the relay was broken. Even though I was past the warranty period (12 months), they begrudgingly sent me a new relay (it's a cheap item). When it turned out that it didn't fix the problem, they basically told me that I was on my own now and would have to contact a local repairman. It's likely that I need a whole new compressor which will cost me upwards of $300 (parts + labor). Only 13 months old and the repairs may cost as much as the unit originally cost. My last wine fridge lasted 8 years before it crapped out. I'm very disappointed and would NOT recommend this product to anyone. The customer service was also subpar. I don't think they give a rat's ass about their customers and they don't stand behind their products.

Best Wine Cooler in it's Class
Looks great and does a good job keeping the wine cold at two different temps. It seems like other reviewers are all over the place on this unit and similar units both on and off of AlumiGogo due to unrealistic expectations. It's not magical object, it's a refrigerator setup to put wine inside. It is quieter then my kegerator of the same size and quieter then my mini deep freezer. I was able to get different sized bottles in by strategically choosing what shelf to use but I didn't need an advanced degree in spatial relationship engineering to figure it out. It lost a star for two reasons. First the shelves should pull out a few more inches. Second the LED temperature displays should be dimmable or at least able to be turned off because they are really bright. Neither of these issues is in any way a deal breaker. I recommend this wine cooler.

Lasted just long enough to get out of warranty period!
This cooler worked for precisely 16 months before it died today. All the comments about the variances in temperatures, etc. were true in my case. The unit although very stylishly designed, was located in a walk-in pantry out of sight. The issue of different size bottles prevented me from lining the bottles up straight. Some champagne bottles were just too large to fit. The racks slid out with some difficulty if the bottles were large.
Most likely I will buy unit again, but this time I'll get a service warranty from Assurion that is offered. They have two and three years for only a few dollars and well worth the money, if the unit is designed to only work slightly longer than the manufacturer's warranty!!!

It works just fine. We also flipped the door opening around
The unit works very well and has little noise. It takes some practise to figure out how to fit 34 bottles in it as wine bottles do vary in size. It is possible, but for most of us who but a wide variety of wines, 30 bottles is more realistic. Our unit arrived with the top display price bent at an angle. The bottom part where it screws together was broken. With some effort i was able to properly snap the part in place properly and securely attached it back in place. It works just fine. We also flipped the door opening around. The instructions did not match what our unit needed, as they state that you can just flip the door around. You can't. You have to move the handle over to the other side. It took some effort and a few mumbled curses, but it went together. Now it is setup the way we want, and we are happy with it.

90 day paper weight
Received this wine cooler less than 90 days ago after which it just stopped working. the only good thing that happened it was delivered on time and it worked for 90 days after which it became a massive paper weight. I am currently working thru the warranty process. I will update this post to let all know how that process goes.
UPDATE (29 Sep 15) Just completed Warranty process; We had to ship it back to Edgestar, (recommend going to Uhaul to purchase large shipping box if you do not have original). EdgeStar provided the shipping label at no cost. After about a week they notified us the they were not able to fix the unit and was shipping out a new unit. It arrived 10 day later. We have had it for 5 days now . Today is the day to plug the unit up. Today is day one for the second unit wish us luck.

Died after 2 weeks
After checking the reviews, including from other review sites I ordered this cooler from AlumiGogo. Set up was easy - followed the instructions exactly. Worked fine for 2 weeks and now it’s completely dead. Waiting to hear back from EdgeStar customer service. I’ve bought many fridges over the years - never had one stop working, let alone this soon.

I've had it for about 5 months and it seems to work fine. I would have rated it higher but for ...
This came with a small dent on the top front corner, so it's in a noticeable spot, but it's only about 2". So bulky there was no way I was going to hassle with returning and it. I've had it for about 5 months and it seems to work fine. I would have rated it higher but for the dent and the temperature controls which can not be manually adjusted, and the temperature can fluctuate quite a bit during the day. The fan also comes on and off repeatedly every minute or so. The fan is not very loud though and based on where we have it I don't notice it unless I'm standing close to it. All in all, not a bad product for everyday wine, but don't put your collectable bottles in this.
