Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware)
This company recently dramatically changed this product. Previously, it came in a two-ounce jar, so to measure out the recommended dose you did need to have a 1/4 teaspoon to measure the amount. Which was fine. If people are too challenged to use a spoon to scoop out a product from a jar, then we really are headed for extinction. The old formula cream absorbed easily into the skin without any obtrusive perfume or unpleasant residue. I used it for about a year and a half and found that it helped with my menopausal issues. Then, I went to order it as usual and found that it had become an "advanced formula" repackaged in a "convenient pump." Well, the reformulation means that in addition to removing parabens and some other objectionable ingredients (which is a good thing), the company is also putting less estriol into the product. If you get out a magnifying glass and read the label information, you will find that the packaging on the old jar says "Apply 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 grams)... Each serving contains 3.125 mg of all-natural estriol USP." The new packaging reads: Apply 1/4 teaspoon... Estro-Life contains 50 mg of all-natural estriol USP per ounce or 2.08 mg per 1/4 teaspoon serving. So that means applying an extra 1.045 mg. The convenient pump may seem more convenient, but the average amount that comes out is not consistent and is not close to 1/4 teaspoon, so you still have to measure for accuracy which I find more difficult than just scooping out the portion from a wide jar. OK, so maybe you are not so picky about exact doses. Then there's this: I am one of those cheap people who cuts open tubes that seem empty because you can usually get a surprising amount of extra product from an "empty" tube by scraping out the corners. The top does not come off of the confounded pump, so I started prying around the bottom which promptly popped off and I discovered that about 2/3 of this container is HOLLOW. If you look at the product picture to the left, the actual product starts about where the "Advanced Formula" is printed on the label. Stunned, I filled the hollow portion with water and then poured it into an empty old "Estro-Life" container and discovered that it filled the old container—about two fluid ounces. Even if there is a whole two ounces in the tiny top portion of the container and in the pump section, the packaging is so misleading that I was shocked. I have seen this in another product (Progesta-Life), but that was less expensive and a bigger overall container. I wrote to the company about these changes (before I discovered that I was buying a container filled mostly with air) and received the usual marketing-speak answer about these packaging changes being well received and, "the decrease in estriol density is not necessarily an upgrade for customers who have been using this product already. We completely understand your not being pleased with this aspect of the changes. We do want you to know that this change has been made as a result of continued research and study about what application provides the best results for the most women. Our new Estro-Life still has about twice the estriol density of the average competing product, but it is now in line with what we discovered is the right amount per application (about 2 mg)." The latter claims may be true, so it's worth researching how much estriol is necessary. I still find the misleading packaging and "convenient pump" annoying. So choose wisely. I am switching to a different product. In the first photo I placed the ruler inside the hollow container and pressed it up to the real bottom of the container. In the second one I placed the ruler on top of the container. The compartment containing the actual lotion is not even a centimeter deep. I'm docking one more star for deceptive packaging.

Works in several different ways
I have been using this product for about 3 weeks. When I first came across the product I was looking for something to help control hot flashes and night sweats. I was post menopausel naturally at 38. Except that before the age of 40 they call it ovarian failure. Regardless, I suffered from hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain, vaginal dryness, sagging skin, wrinkles, I did not have mood swings, but I did have a sense of doom/anxiety before a hot flash hit. It was really depressing to see my skin sag and I felt older than I was. I guess I am a vain person because I am considered a nice looking woman, so the wrinkles, sagging skin and weight gain were kicking my self confidence.
I didn't realize that this type of bioidentical HRT was available, and could actually use it for wrinkles, so after reading all the reviews and finding the paraben free version I had to give it a try. I decided to use it on my face/neck, lower abs, and apply the rest down under. At first I could feel the hormone, I kind of had a head rush, but the first week nothing really changed. I decided to apply a slightly rounded 1/4 teaspoon the 2nd week, and that's when I started to notice a difference. I can say that my face is more glowing and the wrinkles are less noticeable, like a fullness. For the last 3 nights I haven't had one night sweat, it's July and I have even been cold in the middle of the night. Wow. I have had some hot flashes, but they are less often and way toned down, no trickling sweat, no turning beat red. I have had some anxiety before the hotflashes, but it is way toned down as well. No more feeling like I am about to have a nightmare. It also has done wonders for vaginal dryness. In fact I haven't had one episode of vaginal dryness since using the product, which has been wonderful with the husband. As for weight gain I have lost 2 pounds, and since I work out and eat sensibly it could be from that, but to have my hormones more in balance so I can actually lose weight with all the working out and eating right I do would be a huge plus. I have not had any spotting like some have stated, but then the trade off would be worth it to me.
*** Update. I have now been taking this product for about 7 weeks and many of the symptoms I had have either gone away or are way diminished, with the exception of hotflashes. I generally have about 1 night sweat, compared to several and can at least sleep with the covers on most nights. My husband has noticed my improved mood (I didn't even know I was a grouch) and that I 'look' better, anxiety, libido and vaginal dryness all better. Except hotflashes. They toned way down, then began coming back more intense. I have approx. 10/day and have had the trickling sweat from hotflashes. I am blond and fair, so I hate turning beat red in public! Anyways, I am ordering the paraben free version of progesterone to try and erradicate hotflashes from my life.

I Think It's Working?!
*Note: I posted this review for the product with paraben but have in fact purchased the paraben-free version. So here it is:
I am writing my review in hopes that my experience will be of help to other women out there. I am a forty-five years old and had one of my ovaries removed three years ago due to a fibroid. In recent months, I feel like I'm going through a 'second adolescence.' My body has been thrown into an early tizzy of perimenopausal symptoms. It was terrible, sleep wasn't something I was getting, some arid-ness below and started to make sex a little painful (wtf?) plus I discovered what this 'brain fog' thing means, and worse of all, my moods were making me feel so poo poo and lop-sided.
My doctor gave me some free samples of Elestrin that I loved but insurance didn't cover topical estrogen and cost me $150 per dispenser that would last only a month. My pockets aren't that deep... I did my homework and started Emerita progesterone two months ago. The first month I felt somewhat better but noticed I didn't feel the cream itself was making the best of benefits. Last month I developed a week's worth of truck-stomping cramps, that was a long time to be taking Advil. Then I read I should balance my progesterone use with estrogen. Viola, I discovered THIS product and have only been using this going on three weeks! Upon the first application (under my forearms) I felt a difference, I felt a lift/shift almost immediately. Can you believe it? Yes, my body is the sensitive sort but I definitely noticed a difference in my mood.
I have read on other AlumiGogo reviews that ladies apply this to their face. Well, I've started that too. I can also tell you that it seems as though my laugh lines are plumping back out. Seriously, stupid good! The scent is 'neutral' and I wouldn't say it smells like flowers or anything... well- maybe ripened- two-day old flowers.. Yet I think the scent doesn't linger and absorbs quickly.
For my third week in using these two creams in conjunction with a smidgeon of 5htp in the morning, I am mostly me again! I still have night sweats (stopped taking my New Phase this month hoping the creams would be enough.. and they're not..) This product is almost like 'crack in a jar' for peri-menopausal women. Can't wait til my laugh lines puff back out! Can't wait to use more of this stuff tomorrow when I wake up!
Ladies, I know these changes in our bodies aren't easy and who really gives a hootin' nannie until it's her turn? I've just read somewhere that we live twice as long as we ever did in the human race. Therefore, we all need a little help with hormone supplements as we grow older. I now understand why many women seem more 'batty' as they age and why many a men become curmudgeons.. We may be suffering hormone deficiencies and not even know it! (That's what my mom said and she's so right!)
At the risk of sounding a little like a lune, I hope what you read was useful. I can't wait to see what more this little jar can do?
THANK YOU, Smoky Mountain Naturals, for being invented and helping my body and my mind!

I Believe it May Work for Atrophy
Thank You, SMN for making this cream! Hallelujah! I am only 2 days in but can say that I feel like it is working. I suffer from severe atrophy and it effects every facet of ones life. Initial 10-day application started and my urine stream is more like it used to be. I am peeing more like a 35 year old woman and less like an 85 year old man. That is great. This is the first product I have tried that seems to be doing something positive for me, regardless of how quickly it is happening - that is a tremendous bonus. I am excited to see what else may be helped and change for the better.

Using to replace oral hormones - so far so good.
So far so good. I've been using these for about 2 weeks to replace a compounded oral estrogen/progesterone that was prescribed over 3 years ago by a "bio-identical hormone" doctor. No increased symptoms - the Smokey Mountain products have been maintaining me just as my oral hormones were - maybe better. My pharmacist, as well as my own research, indicate that oral hormones can be harmful and that transdermal creams are safer and more effective. So far I'm using a very small amount of the Estro-Life combined with Smoky Mountain Naturals' Progesto-Life, both equivalent in mg. to my prior oral dose. The reason for 4 stars is that it would be nice if the bottles were clear so I know when to re-order.

I am on my third week (also introduced Progestro-Life in week three) and I'm doing great. I would highly recommend
Started this first for two weeks. I'm a 51 female. With the start of Estro I found hot flashes reduced significantly within first few days. By end of first week I was night sweat free. I am on my third week (also introduced Progestro-Life in week three) and I'm doing great. I would highly recommend.

works for me
I really like this cream as others stated you don't need to use alot like the other brand I was using. This has more estrogen per pump so you only need a small dab.
But this is the dangerous estrogen that can cause cancer so you definitely need to use progesterone with it.
Interesting fact: Estrogen cannot reverse osteoporosis because it cannot build bone.. However studies show Progesterone can.
Interesting from Dr Lam:drlam(DOTCOM)/blog/progesterone-cream-and-adrenal-fatigue/961/
Some studies show that estrogen does not cause cancer in the short-term; however, in women taking estrogen and/or a synthetic progestin for more than 10 years, there appears to be a significantly elevated risk of breast, ovarian, and uterine cancers.
In addition to breast cancer risk, long-term estrogen replacement therapy increases the risk of fatal ovarian cancer. A large 7-year study, including 240,073 pre- and post-menopausal women, focuses on this. After adjusting for other risk factors, women who used estrogen for 6 to 8 years had a 40% higher risk of deadly ovarian tumors, while women who used estrogen drugs for 11 or more years had a startling 70% higher risk of dying from cancer of the ovaries.
The risk of cancer therefore has to be considered carefully when it comes to any hormonal replacement therapy. Extensive studies have been conducted on two oncogenes, BCL2 and P53, and their effect on female-specific cancers and prostate cancer. First, it is important to understand that estrogen in our body comes in three forms – estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), and estriol (E3). Our body makes the three estrogens in the following ratio: 10% E1, 10% E2, and 80% E3. E1 and E2 are potent estrogens. They relieve symptoms of hot flashes, but also promote cancer. E3 is the weakest of the three forms. Not only is it non-carcinogenic, but it actually prevents cancer.
Laboratory studies have shown that when E1 or E2 is added to cells of the prostate and breast, the BCL2 gene is regulated, causing the cells to grow rapidly and not die (cancerous). The BCL2 gene, therefore, stimulates the growth of cancer cells and thus increases the risk of cancer. In fact, many studies now show that E2 actually causes breast and prostate cancer. When progesterone was added to the cell cultures, cell reproduction stopped and the cells died on time (apoptosis). Progesterone counteracts the BCL2 gene by stimulating the production of the P53 gene, causing cancer cells to die. To put it simply, according to Dr. Lee, estrogen increases cancer risks while progesterone reduces cancer risks for cancer of the ovary, uterus and small cell lung cancer.
Extensive studies have been conducted in the past 25 years on E3 and breast cancer. They show that women with breast cancer have a lower relative level of E3 in comparison to E1 and E2. In fact, some doctors use E3 as treatment for metastasized breast cancer. A dosage of 2.5 mg to 15 mg a day is used. Studies show that 37% of those receiving E3 had remission or no further progression of the metastatic cancer. For relief of menopausal symptoms, more E3 is required in comparison to E2. Dr. Jonathan Wright is a pioneer in the use of natural estrogen. He formulated a natural compound called “tri-estrogen†composed of 80% E3, 10% E2, and 10% E1. According to Dr. Wright, 2.5 mg of this tri-estrogen, a prescription item available at compounding pharmacies only, is equivalent to 0.625 mg of conjugated estrogens or estrone.
Natural progesterone therefore has cancer prevention properties. It helps to reduce the risk of ovarian, endometrium and breast cancer, while unopposed E2 causes these same types of cancer.
Does synthetic progesterone have a cancer prevention effect? The answer is no. Natural progesterone stimulates activation of the anti-cancer P53 gene by attaching itself to progesterone receptors, found in abundance in the ovaries, breasts, and endometrial cells. Synthetic progesterone (commonly found in birth control pills) or any of its variant forms such as progesterone acetate or medroxy-progesterone acetate competitively occupy progesterone receptors and prevent natural progesterone from occupying these sites. Synthetic progesterone therefore not only fails to stimulate the P53 gene but also prevents its activation by blocking natural progesterone from occupying the progesterone receptor.

I am 58 and people have always told me that I appear 15-20 years younger than I am. The last few years have been very stressful for me and I suddenly began looking every bit as old as I am, and maybe even older, with sagging skin and deep nasal labial lines and forehead lines. Plastic "refreshing" procedures were out of the question.
My initial reason for researching and deciding to try estriol was because sex has become painful and I can't afford to go to doctors and purchase prescription stuff. I have been putting up with hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, panic attacks, etc etc, for many years but painful intercourse was the final straw! In my research I came across information about it being good for aged skin as well as menopausal symptoms and thought "yeah right."
Ladies, and anyone else who is interested, this stuff has worked on all fronts. After four months of daily use my skin texture has improved, it has less sag and more plumpness, the lines are less deep and I can't even really remember the last time I had a hot flash or a night sweat. No brain fog, more energy. Ummm the original reason for trying it is gone too. ;)
I now say, YEAH! HELL YEAH!

So far it has been effective and I have already recommended it to several friends
It seems the information is constantly changing the more we learn. I was obtaining my "Bi Est" by prescription but then happened upon an article regarding the estriol and progesterone and DIM available from SMN. There is really no need for a prescription in addition to a Doctor Office Visit to monitor your own levels simply by getting the lab work done every 6 months. So far it has been effective and I have already recommended it to several friends.
I am very, very happy with your E, P, and D! I have read many articles from reputable research institutions stating "Estriol is the good estrogen"! Eliminating the prescription and Doctor trip is a major advantage! However, I am hoping that one day in the near future, you will be offering the cream that contains testosterone and a small amount of Estridiol. Till then, Im on board!!
