My Life Just Got a Whole Lot Easier! Works Great. Paid for Itself in 2 Weeks
If you've been thinking lately that maybe you should get a Postal Scale, but have been "on the fence" about it OR you just need a new scale that is accurate, easy to use, dependable and a nice size (8" wide x 8" long x 2 1/8" H), please keep reading.
I have recently started selling things on e-Bay and while I am happy every time I make a sale, it's gotten to be a real tiresome and time consuming task to package and mail things. First I have to pack my box, then take it to the US Post Office to have them weigh it, come home and print the label from e-Bay/PayPal with the correct weight on it, and then take it back to the Post Office again. That's two trips to the post office for every day I sell/mail something.
I've longingly eyed the postal scales at the Post Office(as I stand in the long waiting line) for $39.99, but felt they were too expensive. Maybe the Post Office scale is perfectly accurate down to 1 oz(this one is 2 oz at low weights--displays 1 decimal point for ounces and rounds up), but I don't need that level of exactness. I always need to add an ounce or two on anyway for tape, a little extra packing peanuts or bubble wrap and maybe even a freebie that I may add at the last minute.
This scale is perfect for everyday use. It's pretty small which I like and doesn't weigh a lot, yet it feels and looks well made and durable enough. Didn't need to calibrate mine. It was exact right out of the box.(Checked 5 items against the scale at the Post Office when they weren't busy). I mailed about 20 small to medium boxes in the first 3 weeks and they were all spot on. I've used it to mail over-sized letters, packages 15 lbs and under and also when I needed 10 oz. of broccoli for a new recipe we were trying out.
So far this is a great home scale at a reasonable price. It's not complicated, very easy & intuitive to use. And it's saved me an extra trip to the Post Office every day which is 30-45 minutes to spend doing something else, plus gas savings. With 2 kids away at college I'm always packing up something to send them. This has made it that much simpler and the kids are actually getting more "goodies" from home because I have extra time now.
I bought mine through EZ SELL for $17.59 and just wish I would have bought one sooner and made my life a little easier.
What you need to know:
It has an On/Off button.
The LCD readout is bright and the numbers are large and easy to read.
It has a "Hold" button so you can still see the weight of the package after you've removed it from the scale.
(especially useful if package is large and covers over the weight display)
It has a "Tare" button so you can weight an empty container and then have the scale display only the additional weight of the contents.(if you need this)
The "Mode" button allows you to switch between pound:ounce, decimal pound, kilogram:gram, decimal kilogram.
All the buttons are clearly labeled.
Has an auto time off of 2 minutes in case you forget to turn it off.
Flip back top allows you to weigh items that need to lean on something.
It runs on either 2 AA batteries included(if you want to move it around easily) or an INCLUDED AC adapter.
Handles weights between 0.2 oz and 55 lbs.
10 year limited manufacturer warranty

This unit won't ZERO OUT
I don't know how anyone can rate this five stars. I recently purchased this and it won't Zero out. When turned on the weight scale fluxuates from
-1.9oz. to plus 2.1 oz.
How can you weight anything if won't zero out??? I suspect the dampering function is non existance or defective.
JULY 24th - UPDATE.
To my amazement AWS saw this review and contacted me by email. They advised that they would warranty this item for ten years and requested I send it back for a replacement. - FANTASTIC! Great Company and thanks AWS for the follow up.

PS-25 Digital Postal Scale - Excellent - EZ Sell
This review is for the American Weigh Scales (AWS) PS-25 digital postal scale. I purchased it from EZ Sell via AlumiGogo. It was shipped by EZ Sell and it arrived in only 3 days from the order date with standard (free) shipping.
The PS-25 has a maximum capacity of 55 lbs and a sensitivity of 0.1 oz (minimum capacity is 0.2 oz). The scale comes pre-calibrated and I tested it with a calibration weight that I already had and it seemed to be in perfect calibration. Note: If you want to manually calibrate the PS-25, yourself, you will need a 10 kg calibration weight. Such a large calibration weight is usually expensive. The cheapest one I could find is by the same manufacturer (AWS) and cost US$99.99 with free shipping which is almost 5 times the price of the scale, itself.
The PS-25 arrived with the platform uninstalled. Installation was easy---just align the six mounting studs to the mounting holes on the metal sub-plate and carefully push the platform onto the sub-plate until the studs are fully pressed into their mounting holes. The included user manual did not describe this but it was very easy to figure out. If you have any questions, just refer to the photo of the assembled scale in the manual. The PS-25 can be powered by either two AA batteries or an AC adapter. Both were included. The batteries were pre-installed and all I had to do was remove a clear plastic insullation tab from one end of the battery compartment to activate the battery power.
The PS-25 worked very well. It is fast and sensitive. The LCD readout is bright and easy to read. The features work very well: It is easy to change units (kg/g, decimal kg, lbs/oz, decimal lbs) with the "Mode" button or zero a tray with the "Tare" button. The "on/off" button made it easy to immediately turn the scale off without waiting for it to time out. A "hold" button on the side made it easy to freeze the value on the readout so you can weigh an oversize package, "hold" the value, remove the package and its weight is still visible for easy reading afterward. The top of the scale platform is hinged at the back and opens to form a backstop so you can vertically lean an oversize envelope (like a Priority Mailer) onto the scale for easy weighing.
Having a wide-range scale that goes from 55 lbs to 0.2 oz with an accuracy of 0.1 oz, runs from either battery power or a provided AC adapter, and can be calibrated by the user is awesome for this price (US$20.99). You can use it to weigh most anything from postal letters, medium parcels and packages, to food portions in the kitchen. It includes a 20-year warranty from the manufacturer, AWS. This PS-25 is the second AWS scale that I've purchased (I also have a small AWS-100) and the PS-25 seems to offer excellent value. I'm very satisfied with it and highly recommend it.

I really like this scale : ) - till it stopped working well
UPDATE: STOPPED WORKING WELL, am having to return it. stopped zeroing out after weight, and readings were wrong. Back to my 20 year old one.
Ok, it is a vast improvement on my old scale. It stays on when on battery for 2 minutes, my old one would turn off after 30 seconds. When set to grams, or pounds when it turns off it remembers which it was set to. My old one would turn off to quickly, then when turned on it would go back to pounds, so I was always turning it on and changing the scale to grams. I fill SodaStream bottles of CO2 which is done in grams.
This scale goes to 55 lbs, which when weighting small CO2 tanks of 7.5 lbs empty, I can fill it and get 12.5 lbs which is full for a 5 LB tank. In the past I had to use two scales as my old scale only went to 10lbs, and my Taylor scale could not read under 10 lbs.

Perfect Scale For Weighing Packages for Postage From Home Office
It is the perfect scale for weighing items to sell on eBay. When having to add the weight to listings to help sellers know the cost of postage makes for a better description of the item. Once the package is ready to go I double check the weight and then purchase the postage through eBay.
It runs on batteries and electric. I turn it off after every use so the batteries will list for a while. Once they are dead, I'll just plug it into an outlet.
The one issue that needs to be improved are the directions and how to use it. Nowhere in the little booklet does it tell what the button on the right side(HOLD) is used for. I found the use by reading reviews here at AlumiGogo. Hold it in if you want it to remember the weight when you take the item off the scale. I find it silly....just read the weight and type in it in or write it down.

Large, easy-to-read backlit display. VERY accurate. UPDATE: Batteries are dying within days.
UPDATE: I just discovered that this scale is chewing through batteries very quickly. I don't ship packages very often and noticed that everytime I went to use the scale I would have to put in fresh batteries. Lately I've been shipping more frequently - at least a package every week. Still - every time I use the scale I have to install new batteries. I shipped a package on Tuesday and had to install new batteries and now 2-days later I had to ship another package and the batteries were dead.
This is a fantastic postal scale. I really like the bright, large, easy-to-read backlit display and this scale is ACCURATE! On the several different occasions that I checked on the accuracy of the scale by comparing this scale's readings with the actual weight as measured at the post office's scale the readings were IDENTICAL. Exactly the same. I checked at two different post offices locally on several different occasions and the readings were exactly the same. In the past I would use a kitchen scale and after awhile I got a good feel for the accuracy of that kitchen scale and I would usually add a couple of ounces to the reading to make sure my packages wouldn't be overweight when dropping them off at the post office. More often than not I would add too much to the reading. Not a huge deal but now with my American Weigh Scales very accurate scale I don't have to fudge the readings a bit. Thanks for providing such a fantastic scale at such an affordable price. I thought I would have to pay at least $75 to get a scale capable of weighing up to 55-lbs at this accuracy. I really like the "hold" button on the side that allows me to lock in the reading when I cannot see the display while weighing large packages.

Great scale... light weight... reasonable price...
Very accurate and just the right size... It works on 2 AA batteries and AC. Do not use the supplies batteries. After a few weeks they were drained dead and they leak like crazy. Luckily, when I was turning on the scale, it did not turn on so I checked the battery compartment and discovered it as all full of some kind of brown slimy liquid. I removed the batteries and cleaned it out and all went well. I would suggest you get a pair of quality AA batteries and get rid of the supplied ones. Even after this issue I still recommend this scale. Nice looking, accurate and perfect size. Just get good batteries.

It's a nice scale, and would be perfect if it wasn't defective. The problem is the image on the scale, only the bottom half of the numbers show up clearly. I'm going to have to return it.

Very good personal scale for home or for work. Good price. Nice buy. Runs on either 2 AA batteries or AC adapter BOTH included.
The American Weigh Scales Table Top Postal Scale is a very nice scale to use at home or for work. It has a fairly small footprint, but it can weigh up to 55 pounds which is great. Anything heavier you can pretty much just weigh yourself on a bathroom scale then carry the heavy item and subtract the difference. But for small package items, this is a great scale.
I like that it takes little room on the table. It runs on 2 AA batteries included or with the AC adapter power cord also included. The power cord is long enough. You can open the platform and lean an express overnight envelope or a poster tube and still weigh it. The screen angle is good. It can be adjusted by pressing the buttons on the face to change the weight type or to zero the scale if you are using something as a basket or bucket.
Due to the small footprint, you will not be able to see the screen if the item or box is too big and covers over the screen area from viewing. But, there is a button on the side where you can lock the weight to view it after removing the weighed item. And, you can press it again to unlock it.
It is nice that it weighs to 0.01 pounds. And, it is also nice that you can operate it with batteries and be able to move it around or take it with you.
I definitely recommend this scale. Great for small package home use or for work. It is lightweight and has a plastic body, but it is well made and looks good.

Solid feeling scale and made very durable!
This is my third scale after purchasing a rather flimsy but accurate U2 scale on another site awhile back. I wanted a second unit and opted for this. My first scale of course was the overpriced US Postal scale that didn't last more than a year. I ship couple hundred packages a year ranging from small box to a bicycle box weighing up to 40 lbs so I needed something that was durable and this scale was the answer.
The package was generic but well packed with shaped foams and the scale table detached separately in another bag. The unit DOES come with two AA batteries installed and just need to pull the plastic tab to activate. The A/C adapter is nice as well if I was to use this on a semi-permanent location. It fits very snug onto the scale and has nice rubber feet so it doesn't move around. This scale isn't light but not heavy either. It has a good weight to it unlike my old U2 scale or the cheap US Postal scale (HORRIBLE quality).
The scale zero's automatically upon start up or you can always hit the tare button if you need to add a basket or any item you don't want the scale to add the weight. Both metric & imperial settings with number of options to show the weight. I use the xx lbs xx oz. for most of my shipping needs. The hold button is a nice feature as well. The LCD display is crisp and isn't bleeding anywhere.
For the price this is an awesome scale! Obviously this type of scale is not legal for trade but for shipping and measuring things around the house it's a great durable scale to have.
