Effective, low- cost way to monitor your property
Recent thefts in neighborhood made adding some security necessary. We were looking for a means of being alerted to potential intruders on the property before they could approach the house, as we live on 5 wooded acres. I also was looking to monitor some outbuildings on the property. We purchased the Skylink long-range system with 3 additional sensors. After a month and some adjustments, the system is performing so well that we have ordered 4 more sensors.
The additional sensors were easy to program, install, and integrate. I have yet to replace a battery. They are remarkably effective for a relatively low-cost yet long-range wireless option. I had to adjust them all to a lower sensitivity setting (an easy jumper change in the battery compartment), as the first few nights they had me up every time the wind blew a leaf. Since adjusting the sensors, I've only been up once a night (take your pick of woodland animal looking at me when I go to investigate). So far, the smallest animal to set off a sensor was an opossum. The sensors do twinkle red when tripped, so you can visibly tell when you've triggered one.
The receiver unit is reliable, but could use a few upgrades. Thankfully, the sensors can be programmed to different zones (up to 4 sensors in each of the 4 available zones for a total of 16). When triggered, the receiver sounds an alert sequence corresponding to the zone that has been triggered and flashes a red LED on the unit in the appropriate zone. There are 3 available modes of operation (Off - which still flashes a visible alert, Alert - which functions as described previously, and Alarm - which would wake the
dead). I'd like to see another alert mode, that would simply chime or chirp only once or twice, and a volume wheel.
My sensors are installed at various distances from the house, the farthest are about 80 wooded yards from the house. In all, I'm very impressed with the system and highly recommend it, if you don't mind dealing with a few alarms triggered by animals. Great bang for your buck here. Why no 5th star? When I emailed the company to see if this system would integrate with their auto dialer, I received no response. Bad sign.

Don't rely on these to notify you of intruders, or to work at all for that matter.
After experiencing a life-threatening situation in where a man, who turned out to be a paroled felon was standing outside of my window with a large weapon one night, later found he was watching me for an hour, (found on security footage) I ordered this motion sensor to alert me so that I could then turn to my surveillance footage sooner without alerting the intruder so that maybe 911 could get here sooner and apprehend him. However, the first unit that arrived there was no longer a 9v option and the base has a long wire coming out the side, fine, no problem... if it worked. One sensor was completely DOA, the other that I was able to pair to the system was hit or miss, sometimes it would trigger it, most of the time it would not, despite the lights. The replacement unit was a little better, both alarms were able to be set, though not as easily as the directions may lead you to believe, I was never able to set them on lights 3 or 4 on the base, but then a grown man can walk past 2 feet away and not set them off, yet leaves blowing in the wind can. Then, the base literally fell apart in my hand when moving it. I have no doubt based on previous reviews that this used to be a great product, and maybe the other sensors are much better, but currently the long-range motion detectors and base are absolutely worthless pieces of cheap plastic that do not work at all. I am now looking for a suitable replacement that will actually do what these claim to do. Skylink needs to work on quality control & at the very least update the instructions to match the changes in their crappy product.

Ordered this after I returned Magic Closer which did not work. I don't mind giving five stars but the product design was not taken into consideration of attaching to different shapes of garage doors. I started Mahler's Resurrection when I started installing the door sensor, expecting it would have been done 4 minute 23 seconds. But when I came back to inside after I finished attaching the sensor to the door, the Resurrection was on the Finale. You know it is the long piece of symphony. I had to improvise back panel to attach the sensor. I prefer the concept of Magic Closer to this, but I lost confidence for that after the first unit was defect.

Great purchase. Worth the buy for my peace of mind.
This is one of the best products I bought in a long time. Every time the garage opens, the alarm is going off immediately in the house. There is no lagg between when the door opens to the alarm beeping. If you will have the garage door open a while you can mute the receiver so it does not continue beeping. Once the garage is closed, the receiver resets and will beep again, no need to reset anything. I've unplugged the receiver to move it and it also kept the pairing which was awesome. The garage does not alarm so the intruder will not know the alarm is going off. Great product.

Overall a handy system.
These are pretty handy motion detectors. I got one sensor w/ receiver years ago (back then they didn't offer any of the other sensors) and it's worked great. Recently added a second sensor, and I like having the additional coverage/flexibility. The receiver has four zones (different audio alarm for each zone) and each zone can receive signals from four separate sensors (for a total of 16 sensors covering four zones). I had just the one covering my driveway (also lets me know when the mail arrives :) ). The 9v battery last about a year for me. The range is good, both my sensors are on the opposite side of the house (and outside) from the receiver. The motion detector also flashes a red LED when it's activated, so anyone setting it off knows they have been caught. Two different sensitivity levels. Occasional but rare "false" alarms (I've had birds set mine off). I've been happy with mine for years now. Nice expandable system.

Pretty good for the price
I purchased this following an incident where some young men were outside my house early in the morning up to no good.
The sensors mounted easily outside and alerts us to anything moving between our houses. It tends to have false alarms during the day (which is OK with us) and occasionally at night. The night alarms are not really false in that we are detecting raccoons, possums, and other nocturnal critters that we like. Adjustment on the sensor angle and sensitivity is the key and it takes some time to get it optimized. For the price it is good.

Does not work well in windy locations.
We live in Panama and wanted to have a driveway alarm so we knew if someone was coming in to the house. We bought one sensor to check out if they would work and found the first one to work fairly well for the price. We then bought two more and about the time they got here the first one started having lots of false alarms and not going off when someone walked past it. We tried moving it to different places and used one of the new ones on the driveway but it did not work out there either. We finally decided the tradewinds must be the issue. We have bought three of these sensors. The first one worked well until the tradewinds started blowing then it was going off all the time so we removed it. We have a second one in our carport. It is more reliable although does not always go off when someone walks by it. We feel that these are good for certain places but probably not great for us outside due to the tradewinds we have throughout the summer. Hopefully now that the wind has stopped and wet season is getting underway we can put one back out on the driveway and it will work as described. If it does we will update this review.

Need a crowbar to replace the battery
The instructions were written by someone with a good comand of the English language but no mention is made of the type of battery used (a CR2032) or how long the battery should last. That oversight may be intentional as it is impossible to open the case (to replace the battery) without damaging the sides of the case. I had to file down parts of the case to make it easier to open.

Excellent alarm, I highly recommend. Peace of mind at a resonable price.
First, let me say I purchased this device because our apartment building laundry room was burglarized five times in the last three years, last three times in only two weeks. We have video surveillance in the building including in the laundry room but that didn't deterred the bad guys - in fact the last time we were hit, the burglar yanked the the surveillance camera and took it with him. The police came every time we were hit. They watched the surveillance video and were handed a copy, wrote a report and...never heard anything back from them. Not unexpected considering they don't have enough power to deal with the murders, rapes and home invasions happening everyday here in Los Angeles. So this is why we decided to buy this alarm: if the cops can't catch the bad guys, we will.
This device does what is says it does. The range is excellent - I mounted the sensor in the apartment building laundry room and the receiver in my apartment. Distance between the two is at least 250 ft, no direct line of sight and there are one floor and three walls in between. There are no problems with the two units communicating with each other - every time someone enters the laundry room I can hear the receiver beeping. I switch to full alarm at night after I lock down the laundry room - if somebody breaks in the siren sounds like the end of the world is near. Yes, it's that loud.
Be careful when you install the sensor to move the jumper in the back from "high sensitivity" to "low sensitivity". This will greatly extend the battery life and eliminate the false alarms (two issues I noticed some people are complaining about)

I purchased this product because from time to time my wife and I left the garage door open over night. Because of this, I purchased this product to help make it easier to notice from upstairs (being lazy not wanting to come down at night) if we closed the door or not. I bought the long range kit because I had one exterior wall/door to go through. The units are only about 50 feet apart...according to this kit it's good for 800 feet. So I figured 50 feet and one wall/door would be fine. I was wrong. The two units will sync with one another and within a couple of hours, they are no longer synced and the light flashes showing the door is open when it's not. It's very frustrating! A couple of reviews stated their batteries were bad that came with the unit and once they replaced theirs, everything worked properly. I replaced my battery and that did not help one bit. I still have the same issue of it losing signal. Between work and a 10 month old, getting this returned was not a priority, so now I am unable to return it back to AlumiGogo...my fault, not AlumiGogo's. I'll call Skylink to see if they'll fix it under a warranty. I'll keep you all posted. But, as of right now, I would never recommend this to anyone. If I get it replaced and it get's fixed, I'll update this review to keep you all posted.
