Seems to cut down on water waste
This sprinkler is working great so far. I've used it every day for about 3 weeks now. It has enough range to cover my entire yard if I put it in the middle. My yard is pretty close to 60x40 feet. Right now, I'm trying to concentrate water on two separate patches about 10 feet apart. This sprinkler allows me to cover those two areas pretty well. My only gripe is there's no way to "skip" the area between the two patches. However, I can set it up so it goes through that area quickly and sprays out minimal water. The entire sprinkler is made of plastic. I don't see that being a problem if I handle it appropriately. I'm sure in the long run it'll have some effect on quality but for now it's working like a champ.

Great sprinkler with excellent coverage. I have 2 of these to water the front and back lawns that are not uniform in shape. I used to have an oscillating sprinkler that just did not have the same coverage due to the non-uniform pattern of the lawns. It is very easy to set the pattern. All you do is push up on the appropriate notch on the red inner-circle disk to shorten the stream (shortest at about 6 feet). Push all the way down to elongate the stream (maximum stream at 46 to 48 feet depending on water pressure). So it can be set to go, medium, medium, short, long, medium and short bursts to help match the pattern of your lawn. You also have the ability to set it anywhere from just a constant straight line or 360 degree turn which makes it even more versatile. Haven't had any leaking issues in the 3 months I've been using it so that is another plus.
Note you will need to weight it down with something if it is on a hard surface i.e. concrete as it will move. A couple of small paver stones on each side for a couple a bucks each will do the trick. If it is in the lawn a couple of camping stakes should work. Even with this minor inconvenience, the good far out weighs the bad making it a 5 star product.

Older model was great!
This review is for a 5 year old product. I used this for 5 years. Over that time the ring that is used for adjusting the spray pattern disintegrated due to UV damage. It broke in a few place but I was able to accommodate for the breaks cos I needed about 100 degrees of spray area.
I see the new model looks different. I found my amazon order for the product and was about to place the order but decided to read the reviews, Disappointed that the newer model is not as durable or reliable as the old one. I'm buying something else sadly.

Great adjustable diameter spinkler
Best sprinkler I have purchased yet.
Disclaimer - I am really cheap about products likes this, so have never invested in anything high-end, but this one is great for this price point.
The method for lengthening/shortening the spray as it goes around its circle is amazing - it take less than 20 second to re-calibrate for any new area. I feel like I am able to tailor this sprinkler much more effectively than any other that I have used. It saves water on unwanted areas.
- great value for the price
- ability to transition the diameter of the spray quickly and effectively
- the top of the unit came unscrewed on the first use - not uncommon on these type units, but easily fixable

Good but could be better.
I have now bought two of these and will probably end up with a third next year. As someone who has a "set it and forget it" mentally this is probably the best sprinkler for the money, I have a odd shaped yard and this is great for being able to contour the sprinkler to the yard. Unlike the fan sprinklers it doesn't seem to get stuck often (which really sucks when you go to work on some other part of the house only to find that you have flooded one part of your yard). It performs fairly consistently and is easy to anchor down. The main problem I have had is the return spring seems to wear out after about a summer, when this happens it gets locked in one position and floods that part of the yard until you happen to notice it. I live in Oregon and our Summer's aren't extremely long so I don't use it as extensively as some might but I can say after two of these that after about 2-3 months of use you need to keep an eye on it because the spring will not activate and it will get locked up at least once every 5min or so. The alternative I have found to this is to rip out the entire "return" setup and just let the thing spin in full circles. That gets me through the last weeks of the year and then it goes in the garbage.

Eventually the Plastic Parts Failed
For the price, it lasted about 2 and a half years. I LOVED that you could adjust the spray distance all the way around. However, I found its weakness today, as I was un-screwing the sprinkler from the hose to spray out the metal mesh filter, it slipped out of my hands and fell on the ground, which in most cases is not terrible, but THE MOST IMPORTANT piece of plastic broke off, the piece that travels around provides the "pressure" on the adjustment track so you can adjust your spray distance. When that piece is broken off, the sprinkler is useless. Thankfully, I had a metal backup sprinkler. I really want to buy this one again, and at <$20 for ~2.5 years of use, maybe that's ok.

Highly recommend for odd shaped yards
UPDATE: sept 2017 just bought a second one for a different patch of my yard so I can water both for fall seeding. Original one still works great after two seasons. Highly recommend this product.
4.5 stars. Love this sprinkler. I have an odd shaped smallish yard that was very difficult to water with a standard sprinkler. It would take me at least 4 repositions to get the majority of the yard.
With this sprinkler, I am able to water the majority of the yard from one stationary position. It is also oddly mesmerizing to watch.
- Bit tough to pull the orange guide/pegs up making the adjustments more difficult than they should be. But, once you have them set you don't really need to mess with them again. UPDATE: you can push the pins up from the bottom which makes it much easier. Still a bit tough to get them exactly how you want them.
- Louder than I would like it to be. My standard sprinklers make no noise but this makes a chuck-chuck-chuck sound as it sweeps back to the starting position. Not a deal breaker but if you live in close quarters to a neighbor it could be annoying for them.
- Doesn't stay in one place if you have it placed on very short grass or on a patio. I have it placed on the edge of my patio and I have to weigh it down for it to stay in place. Otherwise it spins a lot from the water pressure. I wish the base was more weighted. I solved this by wrapping the hose around the base once. UPDATE: got some spikes from Home Depot and use them to pin the sprinkler down at the edge of the lawn.

Can't get any better
Can't go wrong with this unit. I used to have a metal/zinc impact sprinkler but water pressure is an issue in my area. Switching to this gilmour which is super light and has nice easy to use features water pressures is no longer an issue due to plastic being lighter and water has no problem moving the internal parts to make it spin.

Excellent at configuring for odd spaces, but coverage not consistent inside the diameter
Difficult to assess. If I'm rating on the ability to water odd spaces, then it's a 5* product. It really, REALLY works to water odd spaces. I have one going in an L-shaped space, adjusted to throw long in some parts of the rotation and short in others. Once set-up (and staked in ground), it really works well. Even in the oddest-shaped spaces, I can configure it to just water the grass and eliminate over-spray. As others have mentioned, buy some yard stakes to keep the plastic base from moving.
However, in terms of spray pattern when using at max distance in full-circle mode, I'd give it 2-3*. Now, my house has low water pressure and I know this impacts sprinklers, so I used a traditional oscillator as a baseline, which consistently takes 2 hours to lay down 0.25-0.50". With the Gilmour Pattern Master, in full circle mode shooting 18' or so, it's good at the edges but really, really limited in the space between the circle center and the diameter edges. I let one run in a 18' circle in the backyard for two hours, placed a water collector at 10', and had less than 1/8" after that time. If you're using it in partial circle mode, I think it's better as it throws short on the return sweep. But now I'm having to run Gilmour Pattern Masters for the edges of the odd spaces, and having to follow up with Gardena Aquazoom oscillators to lay down more water on the middle spaces.
Long story short, fantastic for odd spaces and really dialing in spray area, but I'm very disappointed in the spray coverage when on full circle/full distance.

Watered a 100' x 5' strip perfectly
In my five decades i've had a lot of sprinklers, and I was skeptical about the all-plastic construction. In fact I have about 4 different sprinklers for different areas in my 3 acre yard. But this thing is pretty ingenious. I had a strip of new lawn I had seeded that was about 100' by just 5' wide. After playing with the settings i was able to water the whole strip with minimal over spray...I got it down to about 55' x 6', so I just had to move the sprinkler once. Saved me a lot of time, saved water, and since it was watering jsut the part I wanted, it therefore worked faster. I did about 10 minutes on each 50'x6' strip and dropped about 1/4" in that time (more than you need for the first 1-2 weeks, you jsut want to keep it moist). Pretty amazing. And that meant it wasn't much of a chore, so I watered 2x/day so the grass sprouted quicker. And since I'm on a well, avoiding wasting water is pretty important for me.
The red ring raises and lowers the distance, and other than that it works very similar to any other impact sprinkler, but it controls the distance amazingly well. I also found the fine spray screw to work better than my favorite impact sprinkler... i dont' know why, but I think ti's because of the red ring distance adjsuter. Regardless, it's probably the most versatile sprinkler i've ever treid. So now I'll give my other sprinklers away to a friend (but I'll keep my Rain Train, which is another great sprinkler). Yeah, it will probably break in a couple years and I'll get another one. Who cares... it saved me time and water. If you have irregular shapes this things rocks!
