Not that hard to get right
I ignored the recent bad reviews and purchased this butcher block anyways. I wish I hadn't. One of the joints between maple boards was constructed with poor tolerances, leaving a 1/16" gap between the boards that had only partially been filled with glue. This type of defect is an invitation for the chopping block to split.
For such a painfully simple product to construct, there's no excuse for this type of poor workmanship - particularly given the mark-up Boos charges on the raw material. It's indicative of sloppy quality control. I'll be taking my money elsewhere. If you're considering buying this - you might get lucky, you might get junk. Given the recent ratings, it seems that you have about a 50/50 chance of getting something that was built properly. Inspect your product carefully. If you can see glue wider than your thumbnail in the joint, I'd send it back.

Poorly built. John Boos please bring back the quality you once had.
Seams cracking!! I have to believe that Boos has changed their manufacturing process, perhaps inferior glue. I have other JB products that have never cracked. I use oil as directed, never soak in water and condition with Boos conditioning oil regularly. Very disappointed that I have seam cracks on the edges after a few months of use! The size is ideal, and I've liked John Boos in the past.. really too bad!!

Bought as a Christmas gift and just received a text with picture from him - it is cracked on the side, and this is after he treated it with the boos cream I also gave him with the gift. This happened to my boos kitchen island block, a few years and I thought it might be a fluke; but seems quality is going down at boos. I won't buy another one - especially for the $$ it cost.

I'm so disappointed in this purchase. Not only did the cutting board come with a huge dent on one of the corners, but after less than a month of use and following the proper care instructions, it has developed multiple cracks throughout the cutting board. I wanted to support a company from my home state who I THOUGHT made a high quality product, but this is absolutely unacceptable and such a let down. I will never purchase a Boos block cutting board again.

Do not buy any of Boos Board...EVER
I wanted to love this board sadly havent even started using it and had to return and exchange it 6 times. 6 times because I believed it was a fluke, 6 times because everyone was hyping this board to be the only good board you will ever need, 6 times because it was beautiful. Everyboard came with either huge dents, cracks, if wrapped surfaces that wouldnt lay flat. I thought it was just factory seconds that AlumiGogo is selling me but upon visiting the stores locally that do carry Boos, they all have similar issues. Im done. This happens to their expensive wnd grain boards at the store too. Asked associate to take the a few new one from the back for me to look at and wouldnt you know. Brand new end grain boards cracks and dents on 4 of 5 of the boards we looked at as well. Associate reported that recently Boos wuality went down and they have had many customer warrenty replacements go through the store. Wellps! If you want to try, Id suggest you dont! Save time and money and find another brand.

Perfect except for the glue that holds it together :(
I received this as a wedding present and I love everything about this cutting board except the glue that holds it all together. At both ends of the board, the glue has come undone so it looks like approximately 2" along both ends have separated (picture). Not sure why this is happening since I oil it, keep it dry, don't use a dishwasher - any answers for me John Boos?
Despite that issue with the ends separating, having this giant cutting board is great. You can cut and place multiple things on the board at the same time so you don't have to worry about getting separate bowls/plates to clear up additional space.
The knife feels good against the wood and there's a special bounce you get when you're chopping (other buyers know what I'm talking about). The wood board just looks great in your kitchen and has essentially become a decorating piece.

Disappointed with this purchase
I ordered two identical blocks in cherry. The second one was mint- factory sealed, and obviously cherry. The first one to arrive has knife scoring all over it and is maple to be sure. I'm bummed out. Too heavy to pay for return shipping. I'm stuck with someone's used board

It'll Leave a Mark
A year and a half later this thing is still awesome. The occasional wipe down with the butcher block oil. Not a hint of cracking or warpage. It's still solid as a rock and nicely sized for real cheffing in my home kitchen. Hard to figure I used to use anything else. Worth every penny and more.
6-month update: Still awesome. So fast, easy to clean, solid as a rock, and enough space to make lots of veg piles.
Solid, heavy, nicely finished board. I've only unwrapped and chopped some veg and some chicken on it so far, but this thing is nice. The 1 1/2" is legit. The handles are smoothly routered-in with no rough edges. It's pretty, each slat has a nice grain, for the most part. Best of all it's a hard, fast surface that is actually pretty quiet for how hard it feels out of the box. Even with my dull knife, a few habitual higher pressure slices didn't seem to leave a mark yet. This is quite possibly the nicest piece of equipment I've now got in my kitchen, if only because it is one of those simple, heavy-duty items that looks like it will make cooking more fun and easier. The 15" x 20" size is great for piling-up on some product and not running out of room, while also not completely dominating the whole counter. Happy early Festivus to me. I threw a 99-cent rubber draw liner thing under it, and it works great for staying put. I'll update with use, but so far can't imagine something this thick and solid having any issues going forward. Worth every penny of 50 bucks right now.
Edit 1: A few days in and I'm still in love. This thing makes me feel like I'm a real chef. Makes chopping fun.

Buy with confidence! It's worth every penny!
I finally purchased one of these for my home. I use it several times a day and it is fantastic! I purchased the 24 x 18". I use the same size at work and this is the size to buy in my professional opinion. If you're going to prep, you need room to work and stage things. If you're cutting up a lot of veg. you need room to do it all.
I also recommend purchasing a mat to put underneath. I bought "San Jamar CBM1318 Saf-T-Grip Board-Mate Nonslip Cutting Board, 18" Width x 13" Height". It's smaller than my board, but I saved a few bucks and it works just fine.
In addition I purchased the Boos oil and cream.

Perfect size cutting board for working on multiple items
Perfect size cutting board for working on multiple items. Make sure you buy Boos oil and cream to protect and seal the board. Don't buy new knifes without using a wood board. Throw out the plastic. You can get plastic chips in your food and they hold more bacteria than wood per a Michigan State study. This board is beautiful.
