Great pen for everyday use, especially for adults
I've been using this pen for about 6 years or so, and I'm on my third pen. That's not because of poor quality, but because of poor care on my part. I'm in finance and accounting, so I write a lot of reports, fill out paperwork, and take a lot of notes. I hate skinny little mechanical pencils and pens that are designed for the hands of a 4 year old and tire out my hands. I switched to this from a Mont Blanc and Pentel P205 mechanical pencil. The Mont Blanc was nice for the image, but I found this is more comfortable with the big triangular grip, not to mention it writes better. Plus, I only need to carry around one writing implement rather than two. Also, the stylus has come in handy when I'm using my smartphone (Samsung Instinct) and need accuracy on the touchscreen. (I don't think it will work on an iPhone though)

Really nice quality!
I just purchased my second PhD pencil from AlumiGogo. There was nothing wrong with my first one, but I use it in my work bag, and love it so much that I wanted a second one to keep at home. I've had my first one for about five or six years, and it's just now starting to show signs of wear in the rubber grips around the front.
These pencils do cost more than other mechanical ones, but they are built to last and withstand daily use. I teach and use this pencil all the time, and it has held up really nicely. Great quality!

Great long lastin pens
I love these pens-I have 3 & had all 3 for bout 5-7 years. They are difficult to find in the stores but soooo easy to get on AlumiGogo. I don't need the stylus in them so took it out & put red ink refill in its place. + the ink refills (red & black) are reasonable priced on AlumiGogo (2 refills in 1 pkg for only $1.49). I do allot of writing so they are perfect for me. Last I need a thick pen as have problem w/my hands & can't grip skinny, narrow pens/pencils so these are perfect thickness.

Use this all the time
I have had many of these pens through the years. I love the fact that with only a quick twist I have either a black or a red pen or a great pencil. It has kept me from having to interrupt a project to get up to get a dieffenbachia colored writing instrument. It is very durable and the ink lasts for a good, long time. I haven't purchased refills but I imagine they would work in it just fine.

Good, but ERROR IN DESCRIPTION
ERROR IN DESCRIPTION: This is a black pen + pencil + STYLUS, NOT the red ink pen (as I'd hoped it would be). Still, it's been my favorite pen for years, so I'm happy with it. I keep having to buy more because I use the heck out of them and the plastic eventually cracks, but I love 'em, so I'll keep replacing them. Great for big hands and perfect when both pen & pencil are needed frequently. Red ink cartridges are cheap, so I'll likely replace the stylus (useless on today's capacitive screens) with red ink.

the envy of my classmates haha
This is the most useful writing device that i have ever owned
It is a nice looking pen/pencil, and I replaced the stylus with the inkwell of a cheap blue pen that was lying around, so the universal interchangeability of the ink is really cool. I will definately be using this for all of my schoolwork/notes,

I've had several of these and lost them. Whenever I have owned one, it has always played the rôle as being my primary pencil and has been a real workhorse for many a semester. It's durable and useful, fits nicely in the hand, has delightful balance, a nice graphite reservoir, and a beautiful large twist eraser.
Compared to it's predecessor, the PhD (sans the 'Ultra' designation) this pencil actually has a much more solid construction, and a clip that won't get bent out of shape the first time any strain is placed on it.
This review assumes the pencil to be used for general writing. If you are looking for something for drafting, or some kind of technical work, I'd recommend the Pentel Sharp Kerry.

3-in-one is convenient
I like the PhD products ... being a PhD myself ☺. I like having a pen & pencil in the hand, as I often switch between the two. Can't speak for the stylus on "i"screens, as I don't have any. I use the orange-colored stylus as a pointer on others' screens when I am making a teaching point. Hopefully, the refills remain available.

cool pen, stylus doesn't work with most touchscreen devices
The stylus doesn't work on any of my touch screen devices which is totally my fault for not really looking into it deeper before buying it but also think they should display a list of devices it is compatible with for easier consumer purchase
