Superior craftsmanship to the other models
I remember shooting apples off heads with my prior Bandit. I didn't just imagine this memory did I? So I was expecting to find that sort of consistency 10 years later.
We looked first at a zombie vs black ops version made by barnett. We liked it because it had 9 darts and was only $15. It looks identical to the barnett bandit. But the results were saddening. Terrible accuracy and inconsistency. I thought that anything made by Barnett would be a winner, but the "barrel" wasn't smooth, the darts didn't fit all the way into the bow, and the darts were made of a cheap bulky stiff plastic. We bought an additional 2 blackops zombie models and they all sucked for the same reasons. cheaply made.
I am so glad we decided to try the bandit model from amazon. I have compared it to my original bandit and the blackops zombie one:
1) It comes with three high quality darts with thin, fine plastic that fly true. 2 out of 3 darts don't suction at all, however, just bouncing off the target.
2) The trigger pull is so much lighter with this one. This helps with user accuracy.
3) The barrel is smooth and fine without obvious bumps like the blackops zombie one.
4) The darts fit perfectly with the crosshairs.
5) The bow has notches that raise it closer to the level of the dart, is 1 inch longer, and is much stiffer than the old bandit.
So trust me, the knockoffs are just that. You can't even trust the Barnett logo. This Bandit blows away the original and the blackops zombie one by far. I am so glad that we took a chance and kept looking for that consistent crossbow that we know and remember.
4 stars because my only complaint is the darts don't stick.

Got this for my 5 year old since he watches his older sister and I use our crossbow. He loves this thing. Even my daughter uses it when he's not playing with it. She drew a whole scene with deer and game birds with a point system for hitting certain areas on our large glass sliding doors. We bought a bunch of the cheap nerf darts and they work perfectly with this. Hours of fun. Both have no trouble loading and firing on their own.

Fun but be careful!
I used this for a Daryl costume and it did the job. It's very thin and obviously a toy but that worked out just fine for me and looked cool. It was also fun to play with and you could shoot your friends with it and have a good time.
If you buy it for it's attended purpose I'd be sure to supervise your children very carefully with this because you could legitimately hurt someone if you got shot in the face. But it's fun pretty durable and entertaining!

Awesome product, but trust the age suggestions
I asked my nephew what I was supposed to get him for Christmas and without hesitation, the answer was a crossbow. He said that Grandma was already getting him a toy snowmobile, and he didn't think he'd need two of those, so a crossbow was the logical next choice.
I figured that Nerf or one of the knock-off brands would have a crossbow, but they all looked like junk. This looked like a great product and the reviews were good, so I threw it in the basket and thanks to prime shipping, it showed up just a couple days later as promised.
The crossbow is definitely quality. The only problem is, it's barely a toy. Those little darts fly out of this thing like they mean business. I felt bad for my nephew (he was four at the time) because it was way too much for him. My older nephew (14) loved it. And if I'm honest, the uncles greatly enjoyed it too.
For now, it has a home sitting on top of the upper cabinet, well out of reach of its owner. So while it wasn't perfect for him, it is a great little product. I can't fault it for my bad purchasing decision.
And don't feel too bad for the little guy. I found him a more kid-friendly toy crossbow for his birthday this year. He can use that one until he's old enough to pull this one down off the cabinet

I found that I had to make up a word to describe this toy. It shoots much MUCH better than any other toy crossbow i have seen. It even shoots farther than most modified NERF guns I have seen. It gets great range but, from what has happened with mine i cannot agree with the other reveiws. My NERF darts did NOT work in this until I wrapped them in masking tape to make them thicker. Also my darts are not breaking they have hit a metal electric box, my wall, my friends house, and my friend's brick roof and are still in perfect condition. It is easy to lose 3 darts though so I advise getting NERF darts and wrapping them in tape (unless mine's a defect and regular NERF darts might work for others) or buy extra darts to accompany this crossbow.

We got this for my younger son when we got his older brothers a set of Barnett bows. We use it in the house, haven't had any issues with the darts or the bow breaking or damaging anything. It simply doesn't have that much force.

Great and fun toy that I even had when I was a kid that I bought my nephew. Not much has changed so it's still fun.

Good, same quality as when they first came out.
We had these when we were kids, and that's why I wanted to get them for my nephews. They broke them by the second day, but having had them we were able to rig them fairly easily. The metal tab that hold the actual bow on broke off, and we replace it with a bigger piece of metal. Then on the other one, the string holder broke and we replaced it with a washer and a boot shoe lace because there wasn't enough slack to retie the string. It also allowed us to slow it down a bit... These are pretty fast little darts. I am giving 4 starts because, with simple fixes they will last a long time. They would have gotten 5 if they hadn't broken so quickly.

Maybe a bit too awesome.
Very simple and very rugged construction that does exactly what it's supposed to do; hurl darts at near supersonic speed. My only problem with this thing is that the tiny suction darts fly so fast that at close range they will bounce off of a surface rather than stick to it. You can actually hear them whistling through the air. On the shoot-your-eye-out scale, this crossbow is somewhere between a sharp stick and the perilous Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle. Your older kids will love it, your younger kids will cry because you won't let them play with it.

Great for a Halloween Costume
I've never been a big fan of toy guns but my teenage sons are big fans of The Walking Dead. My thirteen year old wanted to dress as Daryl and go trick or treating. His friends weren't going this year and he was too embarrassed to ask one of them, but he didn't want to go out alone, so his sixteen year old brother said he would go and dress up as Rick. I was so touched by this display of brotherly love I just had to buy them all the violent accessories they needed. I'm not toy gun expert but it is decent quality and served the purpose and it was a lot cheaper than at the costume stores.
